I think I used the same recipe last week! Used sr wholemeal and they turned out ok. Ish!

Mind you, I don't think it would ever be a problem using SR instead of plain but it wouldn't work the other way round without adding baking powder.

I would assume plain flour as it is more 'all purpose' than S/R ... but I'm not certain about this!

Another vote for plain flour here too. You can always add baking powder to plain, but you can't remove it from s/r, which makes plain flour all purpose.

If there's no baking powder, it has to mean SR.

I'm still sure that all purpose is plain though

According to Wiki it's plain flour ... I'd add a bit of baking powder tho or they won't rise.

Most muffin recipes use plain flour and baking powder though, mascara! Muffins do rise so the bulge out over the top of the cake case (hence the term "muffin top")

the apple spice muffin recipe in my book has 9oz plain flour and 3 teaspoons baking powder

Mine just dome a bit really depending on the recipe
this one is 2 cups all/purp flour
1/4 cup white (assuming castor) sugar
cinnamon
1 egg
1/4 cup melted butter
1 cup apple
