Does it have to be Italian?

singyswife · 28/08/2008 21:23

Lasagne always does it. With crusty bread and proper butter and a big fat salad.

WideWebWitch · 28/08/2008 21:23

Chicken breasts wrapped in proscuitto?
a roast?

mazzystar · 28/08/2008 21:24

Does it have to be sophisticated?

josben · 28/08/2008 21:24

No can be anything really - poss bit medditerean (sp?) or just something that doesn't takes ages to prepare..

TIA

lasagne v good idea
I agree

Sarimillie · 28/08/2008 21:25

How about that tricolore starter - mozzarella, tomato and avocado slices drizzled with balsamic and olive oil, with fresh basil on top?

Sarimillie · 28/08/2008 21:26

And for pudding I'd do baked peaches stuffed with amaretti biscuits ...

josben · 28/08/2008 21:26

Lasagne is a great idea, but that is my speciality 'fall back on' meal and i'm sure I've served it to them before!

Salad
olives
cold chicken
ham
garlic bread
hummus
prawns and garlic mayo
tomato, basil and mozzarella salad
cheese
quails eggs and celery salt

all v easy and children and adults alike bound to like SOMETHING out of that lot. Minimal prep too, just put it all out and let people help themselves.

josben · 28/08/2008 21:27

Ooh these ideas are making my mouth water - yum!

children almost always eat

garlic bread
tomatoes
cheese
you could do cold quiche/pizza too

Gobbledigook · 28/08/2008 21:28

Not Italian but we have friends over on a Saturday afternoon and we always have the same thing (none of us minds!)

Kids have:
Butcher's cocktail sausages
Potato wedges
Crudites

We have:
Butchers cajun chicken kebabs
Baked potato
Green Salad

Washed down with Veuve Cliquot

Boring but we like it!

Ikea meatballs, spaghetti and a tomato sauce with a block of parmesan and crusty bread to mop up with.

josben · 28/08/2008 21:33

Sounds good gobbledigook - simple yet tasty!

pasta with home-made pesto?

singyswife · 28/08/2008 21:36

Metnanplus I agree with that one. Simple and really tasty if you make your own sauce. Lovely with wine, you could make a chilli version for the adults and tomato only for the children, only would make my own meatballs too. YUMMY

A great big Moussaka with a Greek salad and garlic bread.
