Any top tips on how to make a 'Barbie Cake' look half-way decent?!

DD1 (going to be 6 in September) wants a Barbie cake. I'm going to try and make one (ha!ha!). My friend has a pudding bowl shaped baking tin and so I'll use that for the skirt. I have a Barbie ... and ... 'um ... well that's as much thought as I've given it so far.

Has anyone made one of these and do you have any top tips as to how to make it look okay?! (Speed to ram the Barbie into the sponge base etc. etc.!!) I'm a novice cook, so no technical terms please

Very many thanks in advance.

I cheated , used pink fondant for the skirt with preformed flowers and silver balls but made a frill to cover the join around doll's waist from a doily. btw you may have to remove Barbie's legs to get teh right height ! (or buy a doll body peg for cakes )
