I want to bake a cake or something similar to take camping. It needs to be filling and keep reasonably well.

Has anyone got any good suggestions?

yes, excellent thanks. Flapjacks and fruit loaf sounds just the job. Anyone got a good recipe for fruit loaf - I used to know one with all bran in but have lost it.

I uise this recipe but add cherries and apricots as well as mixed fruit. It keeps for ages and is very sustaining (and yummy)
If you are not organised enough to soak fruit overnight, put fruit in tea and microwave for 8 mins. Has same effect.

Ingredients
3/4 lb (350 gm) mixed fruit
7oz (200 gm) fair trade soft brown sugar
10 oz (270 gm) self raising flour
3/4 pint (425 ml) freshly made tea
2 eggs
Pinch of salt

Method
Make the tea and then pour over the fruit and sugar and leave over night. Next day, mix in the flour and the beaten eggs to the soaked fruit and sugar and cook in a 2lb greased, non-stick bread tin. Cook for approximately 1.5 hours at gas mark 2 (300ºF, 150ºC). Cool on a rack and served sliced and buttered.

Yeah for banana cake/loaf. We always take this sailing, keeps well and is blummin yummy and kind of satisfying with a cup of tea if it is cold/rainy. Cant remember where I got my recipe from but you could google it.
