thebecster · 24/07/2008 15:35

burgers

Shame about the no potatoes, shepherds pie, and meat & potato pie are both lovely with mince too...

kitkat9 · 24/07/2008 15:37

I know, quite fancy cottage pie. Suppose I could go and get potatoes...

spicy meatballs with spag/pasta

squidged on kebab sticks with seasoning and flavours of choice. Under grill if can?t be bothered with a BBQ
(I chill mine after squidging. Seems to make the meat stick to the sticks better)

Pasta bake is yummy. Bolognese mince on the bottom, make a fast cheese/white sauce, stir in pre cooked pasta. Pour over the mince. Add breadcrumbs/grated cheese to the top

Cottage pie with carrot/parsnip mash on the top instead of potatoes is a nice change - honest!

Got any filo pastry in the freezer? Quick pie with mince on the bottom of an oven dish and filo on the top

oh the joys of mince.. I could go on and on and on

keema is just another word for mince i think. It's very easy to make.

Fry 2 medium chopped up onions. Add 1 clove of minced garlic. Add 1-1.5lb mince. Add 1 teaspoon of ginger, 1 tablespoon of cloves, 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of tumeric, 1.5 teaspoon of coriander, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 tablespoon of chilli powder, 1 tablespoon of garam masala and pepper to taste. Stir on medium heat for 10 minutes. Add 1/3 mug of water. Cover and cook on low/medium heat until mince is almost dry. Add 1 can of tomatoes. Increase heat and fry for several minutes. Add peas and 2 diced potatoes and 5 tablespoons of water. Cover and cook until the peas and potatoes are done.

i was gonna say burgers too - you can add all sorts of veg to home made burgers, onions, carrots, courgettes, peppers, you name it, and it can be hidden in burgers - great for kids who dont like veg.

this is super easy, not too spicy, very tasty

spiced beef (serve with pilaf rice normally)

500g beef mince
1 1/2 tsp curry powder
1/3 cup sweet chilli sauce
1/4 cup water
4 green onions, thinly sliced
2/3 cup frozen peas
1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves chopped

Cook beef until browned, add curry powder until frgrant. Stir in sauce, water etc..... until peas are soft and heated through. Serve on pilaf rice with chopped coriander on top.

Here's the rice too

1 small brown onion, slice thinly
1 clove garlic, crush
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp caraway seeds
1/8 tsp ground tumeric
1 cup basmati rice
2 cups chicken stock (500ml)
2 tbsps currants

Fry onion, garlic, seeds and tumeric until onion softens, in a tbsp of ghee (or olive oil).
Add rice stir until coated. Stir in stock, bring to boil. Reduce heat to minimum, cook covered 12 minutes. Remove from heat, stand for 5 mins, stir in currants.

keema will be great in a slow cooker, as it helps to meld the flavours beautifully

Cobbler

You could have it like shepards pie but with pastry on top.

bundle · 24/07/2008 16:26
