Just about to make Nigel Slater trifle with the DDs - oh no, RAW EGG ...

They're Columbus eggs with the Lion mark which I understand means the chickens are vaccinated against salmonella ...

DDs are 3 and 4 ...

If I can't use them, what can I use instead? They were to be mixed with mascarpone, sugar and vanilla. I don't have any cream or anything

you can't use anything instead. i guess you could combine the masc. with whipped cream to lighten it a bit but that would mean going out and buying some.

(personally i think i'd risk it...)

My 3 year old has had something with raw egg. It will be fine but only if you are happy to do it.

Yes it't the topping -yolks creamed with sugar, then add mascarpone & vanilla, plus whisked egg whites. It's an ultra-simple trifle - sponge fingers with fruit on top basically (ahem well a wee bit of wine on the sponge - starting to look totally irresponsible now aren't I ...)

My DCs (3 and nearly 2) also eat raw cake mixture. I'm pretty over-cautious with most things, but I think the risk with Lion's mark eggs is v v low.

If you don't want to risk it, the suggestion of whipped cream would probably work.

They're v healthy and ultra robust. Will clear it with (aka pass the buck to) DH (medic) first. And will check with their friend's mum before offering it to him for tea!

oh for goodness sake! It would be absolutely fine for them. I don't understand all this fuss about raw eggs - I even ate things with raw egg in whilst pregnant. Load of fuss about nothing.

I don't know how you can know something like that so absolutely, but yes, they ate it and were fine
