Hi all
It is my friends birthday on Fri and she is a cat lover. I was googling some cakes to buy/make and came across this one which looks fab (in a disgusting sort of way) but it seems to be an american recipe and i cannot actually find one i could make using english ingredients.

the link is here for the cake www.thedailymews.com/articles/kittylittercake.htm

anyone who has any ideas would be greatfully received

thanks

I think it's really funny, especially for a cat lover. I wouldn't need a glass of wine before I tucked in! Though I can think of a few friends that would

bethoo · 08/07/2008 10:28

you know thsi friend and what her humour is like, i think it shows taht a lot of thought and effort went into doing something unique. you could always go out and buy a normal cake from the supermarket jsut in case.
i would be flatterd that someone went out their way to actually bake a cake with something that is connected to me instead of a quick run down to tescos though their choc party cake is to die for!

juniperdewdrop · 08/07/2008 10:31

Can you imagine guests walking in and that sat on the table

You have to get the poo to look really real though.

sweetmonkey · 08/07/2008 10:32

bethoo and 2sugars THANKYOU!!!!

I was just trying to do something different and nice for a friend and i think you realised that

I am not doing it to be nasty or make her ill, just doing it as a joke

At last people get my humour

sweetmonkey · 08/07/2008 10:33

we need a pic on here though. So are you using fudge fingers warmed slightly? Crushed biscuits would do to sprinkle on top wouldn't it?

sweetmonkey · 08/07/2008 10:48

yes i will get some fudge fingers and mould them into desired shape pmsl

and i will def post a pic and no doubt get flamed again by people

You could just make a big sticky rice krispie cake (one of those made with butter and marshmallows, not chocolate) and add other ingredients for cat litter authenticity if you like, as someone said, crushed biscuits etc then add your choc fudge poos on top with a few extra sprinkles of the rice krispie mix to finish.

THAT way, people would know what it was meant to be, but also know what it was made of iyswim. Rather than just diving into an unknown mush of broken cake mixed with angel delight (which, if it was at all soggy would be rather offputting tbh) they'll at least know it's a rice krispy cake with choccy bits on, so it's less likely to get a real yuck reaction. Hope that makes sense!

sweetmonkey · 08/07/2008 11:17

yeah i was just going to do a giant flapjack instead and then the choc on top but i am still open to ideas like yours as that was the whole point of this thread to begin with

Love2bake · 08/07/2008 11:18

That would be the first and only time I would say no to cake.

Please dont make it.............

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 08/07/2008 11:23

Okay, but you know that if tesco started selling this as a novelty cake, it'd sell out within hours! (and have an equal number of people petitioning for it to be banned/killed with fire)

Go for it, op. Bet your friend will have a giggle at it!

i think its hilarious. i would find it funny if someone gave me that cake. for the ones with harsh comments, i think you are taking it all too seriously.

ninedragons · 09/07/2008 01:49

Walnut Whips could work as poos, but they probably resemble dog turds rather than cat turds, I suppose.

ninedragons · 09/07/2008 01:49

Can this be recipe of the week?

sweetmonkey · 09/07/2008 10:12

ninedragons i actually got some walnut whips for it this morn. lol. great minds eh

got a litter tray and scoop and some toffee poppets which i thought i could make into a little pile too.

I am going to make a mental note of this for Halloween.

Or next time a bridezilla starts droning on about wedding cake in my hearing.

snowleopard · 09/07/2008 14:24

OMG, that is horrifically realistic. I have just ROFL at it but in reality I don't think I'd be able to eat it. Just looking at the photo I can smell cat shit.

sweetmonkey · 09/07/2008 14:27

well hopefully mine wont look quite as realistic. It will be obv that the "sawdust/litter" is flapjack and that the rest is choc. just thought it would be something diff

OP posts:
snowleopard · 09/07/2008 14:29

It does make me lol and if you were my friend and gave it to me I would find it hilarious. But I'd kind of hope you had another, not-even-remotely-chocolatey cake waiting in the wings for us to actually eat. I'm not dissing your plan though. Make the cake! (and show us the pic)
