Cheese topped bread rolls?

I’ve got an easy recipe for bread rolls but I want to make the cheese topped type you get in the supermarket. Can I literally just add grated cheese to the top of them?

Yes but you might have to experiment with the baking time and when you add the cheese so the cheese hasn't burnt before the rolls are done.

Sure it’s just one I found on Instagram! I would recommend making them smaller than you think, the recipe said it makes 3

I'd brush the tops with a little milk or beaten egg first so the grated cheese sticks better, then add the cheese before baking. A mature cheddar works really well. If you want that proper supermarket bakery look, try adding the cheese partway through baking rather than right at the beginning, so it doesn't get too dark before the rolls are cooked through. You can also sprinkle a little extra cheese on during the last 5-10 minutes for a lovely golden topping.
