Ways to use up a disappointing box of Sauvignon Blanc

I bought a 1.5L box of Mud House Sauvignon Blanc and it's disgusting IMHO - I was thinking about taking it back but my partner didn't think there's anything wrong with it - it tastes like stewed apples and vinegar to me... anyway.

Do you have any suggestions on how to use it up - most recipes don't need that much white wine.

Personally I'd give it up as a bad job because if it tastes grim to drink, cooking it down is possibly going to be even worse 🙈 I'm the type who would consider taking it back, but ultimately if you don't want to do that just chalk it up to experience, let the other half finish it if he wants to and don't buy again

I think I'd try it in a recipe that calls for some white wine. If it works fine, freeze the remainder flat in ziploc bags in portions, or in ice cube trays (if you can be bothered). If not dump it or since DP thinks it's ok, leave him to finish it.

Surely your DH will finish it if he says its ok

The freezing is a good idea, mussels in white wine? Fondue?

I love Mud House - send it this way if you like …..

Freeze it into ice cubes.
Use it for risotto and casserole. Stick it in some lemonade and have spritzers.

I’d do chicken casserole using the wine to replace some of the stock, or a chicken risotto again with a mix of stock and wine. IME wine that I don’t like is often fine in cooking (as long as it isn’t actually off). It should keep for several weeks in the box but if you want to keep it for longer then freezing it is a good idea.

French cookery, perhaps? I seem to get through a lot of wine that way, and I can't bear to drink any of it!

Do you have a bike with a chain that needs cleaning? Or a drain that needs unblocking?

I did the grown up thing... and took it back to Sainsbury's - I only bought it yesterday - 3 of us thought it was not right. Sainsbury's were fine - asked if it was "vinegar-y" which it was - they said it happens rarely but isn't totally unknown - we couldn't work out of there was a date on the box - I had the receipt so they instantly refunded it back on to my card. So no emergency cooking required... it has put me in the mood for a chicken, ham and leek pie which uses a bit of white wine. I came home with 2 standards - Dark Horse Chardonnay and a Yellow Tail Chardonnay.

@Minniliscious so does my reference to stewed apples and vinegar sound like that's normal for this wine - I've not had it before but on line the reputation/reviews is/are great - they mention it tasting "acidic" but this was a too far outside the norm for me.
