Half cooked soggy paper on the bottom of the mince

I am making bolognaise. Tipped the mince in and began to break it up then realised the soggy paper was still stuck to it. It broke up in to four or five pieces and I fished them all out before they completely dissolved. I turned the heat down and looked very carefully to make sure there weren't any more pieces and I couldn't see any more, so continued cooking. Will it be safe to eat?? X

yes

Of course

Ah I’ve done this before OP but unlike you I didn’t realise until we were eating it 🤦🏻‍♀️

My mum once cooked one of those fresh pizzas for us as kids with the polystyrene still on the bottom. The whole thing melted down and made the base super crispy. Tasted a bit plasticy but we scoffed it down and no ill effects after 45 years.

Of course it’s OK. It would have been OK even if you hadn’t found it all. Can I ask why you think it wouldn’t be?

Paper isn’t toxic. Why wouldn’t it be ok? You’ve removed it anyway so it’s all good. This happens to me all the time!

I don’t think a bit of heated up paper will do you any harm! It is basically baking paper which people use in their oven all the time, with cookies or whatever baking directly on top of it.

It’s just tissue not poison. It’s made of tree.

I’m glad it happens to other people because DH (who is a very good cook, I’m not) reminds me of it sometimes and this was 20 years ago!

Oh, for goodness sake, you’ll be fine!
