Tastiest supermarket smoked salmon

i had the tastiest smoked salmon in a baguette in a cafe today. Way better than any I’ve ever rhad from supermarkets. I appreciate you getting what you pay for, and that supermarkets may not be the best source, but just wondering if anyone had ever had really fabulous smoked salmon from a supermarket, and if so which supermarket and which brand.

Nearest Waitrose to us is 80 miles away! Tesco do wild smoked salmon, it's much better than than the farmed stuff. Haven't a packet at the moment so can't tell you the brand, but it's with all the other smoked salmon. I don't buy farmed because of the appalling conditions the poor fish are kept in. The wild is firmer, meatier, and a stronger colour. It's not excessively more expensive either.

I think this is one of the nicest supermarket ones, and it’s often on Clubcard price. I can eat several packs a week!

The brand Leap, sold in Waitrose, is the best supermarket smoked salmon I’ve found. Pricy but does go on offer occasionally which is when I buy it

Aldi. It’s the only reason I’d go there. Truly melt in the mouth.

Leap is wild salmon isn’t it? It’s cut much thicker than traditional smoked salmon.. I buy it from Waitrose as i always thought being wild it wasn’t as fatty but if I’m honest, there’s much nicer smoked salmon.. you do pay for what you get though.

Can’t say I’ve ever looked at whether it’s farmed or wild! It is a bit thicker cut than standard which I much prefer.

I believe that at the top level of smoked salmon they recommend different cuts depending on what salmon it is. For example, some of the smoked salmon available at Fortnum & Mason gets a deep V cut which is done more vertically through the fillet, as opposed to horizontally and so comes out much thicker.

Agree, Mowi organic smoked salmon is really good as is Mowi organic fresh salmon. We buy from Ocado
