I haven’t phrased that thread title at all well but hopefully you get what I mean!
I am trying to do more home made snacks this year as it’s an easy way to reduce UPFs. Both the DC and I love flapjack so I’m thinking that there are options around that, both suggestions for things that make them more filling or nutritious (seeds for example) or just to mix it up a bit (I have already asked a friend for her apricot flapjack recipe).
All suggestions and ideas welcome!
Thank you

What basic recipe are you using? I always found flapjacks dry and brittle like a cereal bar until I found the recipe by Soup Dragon ( search it up please, I cannot do I'm on my device) it is insanely good but completely unhealthy.
Butter condensed milk, syrup, porridge oats. Though I say to my DD " there's no sugar in it"......…..
If I was going to add things ( which I wouldn't, that would be sacrilegious) maybe swap the syrup for honey . Use a granola type cereal with seeds as a % of the porridge.

Why do you say there’s no sugar in it??

To wind her up . Shell ask me " so what's in condensed milk then ...."
It is not a healthy snack by any means
Even allowing for the porridge oats . But not with half a tin of condensed milk .

I did see a recipe that had condensed milk and sugar which it doesn't need

I like Jane’s Patisserie Flapjack recipe and also her raspberry oat crumble traybake. You could use other fruit instead of raspberries. Yogurt loaf is also popular here - I make it with a protein yogurt.

Date slices!

I make them with chopped dried strawberries, cranberries, cherries and sultanas. But that's quite expensive! I'd also add nuts and seeds but only if I was eating them myself!

I add a mix of seeds, dried goji berries and cranberries. It’s a mixed packet from Sainsburys. I don’t use nuts as my DS has it in his lunchbox and nuts aren’t allowed in his school. I also sometimes add sultanas or other dried fruit. I don’t think of it as a healthy snack though given the quantity of butter and sugar in it!

I make a no cook muesli bar. I buy ready made muesli and then melt peanut butter and honey together and throw in different nuts and seeds. I also throw in chocolate chips.
It is based on this recipe.
