Ok so DH cooked an amazing Jamie Oliver prawn pea and mint rissotto last night. I nailed mine, he was too drunk/full from picking to eat his. I asked him if he wanted any tomorrow he said no so I froze remainder.

He is now moaning as he says he can't now have any because you can't freeze prawns. He said he bought them ready cooked but frozen, defrosted them and put them in the rissotto - but they should be ok now that they have been cooked before freezing again - shouldn't they?

They will be fine. Tell him to stop moaning!

It is OK to defrost raw food, cook it, and freeze the cooked food.

It is not OK to refreeze cooked food.

I read squeaky's post as DON'T do it. Is that right?

Seona1973 · 29/06/2008 12:35

if they were already pre-cooked before you put them in the rissotto then no you shouldnt freeze it and then heat it again later. You could have done it if you had frozen raw prawns and cooked them yourself as they would have been frozen only once in each state i.e. frozen once raw and then frozen once cooked. You cant refreeze sonething that has already been cooked and frozen before.

Yeah, don't do it. Freeze/thaw/freeze/thaw is a really effective way of multiplying bacteria.

whoops. Let you know tomorrow if we are all puking.
