Cheaper supermarket shop

Hi. I’d like to try doing my weekly shop in Lidl as we have just had a new store open and I’m excited to try it. I currently shop in Tesco, it’s a big one and has everything I need. They are not far from each other so I can get bits from Tesco still that aren’t in Lidl but I’d love to try and save some money really. We’re a family of four and I cook most meals from scratch, prawn stir fry tonight, lasagne last night, toad in the hole the night before. Porridge or tesco version shreddies for breakfasts and most days lunch is soup, cheese toasties, eggs or beans on toast. And then quite a bit of berries or bananas for fruit. Will I save money in Lidl and do you have any food recommendations that are good? I worry about fruit and veg lasting, is it ok? Thank you.

It’s my favourite supermarket. Prefer it to Tesco. So much quicker to shop too as fewer varieties of things. I still need Tesco too though for some bits.
Bad things at Lidl. Their berries are sometimes rubbish out of season. Apples too. Their sliced bread selection is poor (but they have great flatbread and bakery stuff).
Just had some great rump steaks from there.
Also. They have the rotating selection every week so always something interesting. Greek pastries or polish pickles. Love Lidl.

Good to know the bad things! Thank you.

We do Waitrose and Aldi. Lidl not that dissimilar to Aldi.

I think Tesco/mid range are the worst of the bunch. You get none of the savings from Aldi/Lidl and no better quality. I stopped in a Tesco on the way back from a trip as DH had a hankering for gala pie. He genuinely had one bite and binned the pack. "Dry and tasteless."

Waitrose really isn't as expensive as you think if you take your time and buy their own brands. The quality really is notable. Plus I know I can get virtually anything, no matter how obscure.

Aldi "specially selected" does superb cheeses. Their wagyu steaks are excellent. Lidl has a super fresh bakery, charcuterie, and oddly, the best washing powder by miles.

I would only shop in Lidl if my choices were Tesco and Lidl.

Good things I get there;
Greek style yogurt
Luxury Muesli and Granola
Blueberry or apricot shreddies
Walnuts, pecans, raisins and Cranberries
Blueberry jam
Toulouse sausages
Cheese straws
Sea salt crackers
Bio washing powder
Lime and Lemongrass washing up liquid
Gorgonzola piccante
Spanish iberico ham
Veg like baking pots, carrots, broccoli

I don't bother with their bread or baked goods as I make my own mainly. The
Soft fruit I've found variable. Prefer tesco.
