Ideas for BBQ side dishes

Looking for some ideas for sides to go with a BBQ.

Currently on the list:

• corn ribs
• potatoes (from the garden, boiled then covered in oil and finished on the BBQ)
• homemade coleslaw
• basil pasta
• spicy broccoli salad

Often do wedges and garlic bread but want to stay away from those, on this occasion. Also love a Greek salad but it takes me forever to make (and I tend to hog it 🤣).

You can cook lentils in bullion and cool, then add chopped packaged beetroot or grated raw, spring onions and feta and mint. That makes a nice salad.

I wouldn't want broccoli in a salad, I don't much like it hot, never mind cold.

I find having a salad with watermelon in it also adds some freshness that can cut through the meat

I was sceptical but then had the broccoli salad at Dishoom and fell in love. I stick the broccoli in a hand blender so it's tiny. I also add extra chilli. Absolutely delicious and very refreshing.

I'm actually eating watermelon right now and was thinking of putting some out. In a salad sounds brilliant.

I recently made a watermelon, feta and cucumber salad for a bbq. Peeled and deseeded the cucumber and cut everything quite small. Bit of chopped mint and a drizzle of balsamic glaze to finish it.

Also recent discovery - grill some peaches on the BBQ, serve them with burrata and some chopped up pistachios, it’s amazing.

I have literally just received an email from Dishoom with the brocolli salad recipe! I have it every time I eat there!

I'm addicted. I made a huuuge portion of it the other day and I've been demolishing it, since 🤣 The dressing is beautiful. I made about 5 times the amount I needed and I've just put some into pots to freeze down.

Courgettes and peppers are both in season at the moment and, with red onion, make up nice vegetable skewers which can go on the BBQ.

Tenderstem broccoli also barbecues well. Serve with a gremolata dressing.

We also just get tins of pineapple rings and put those straight on the bbq. They go lovely and sweet. As well as slices of watermelon as they are for people to help themselves to.

Yeah maybe a green bean and asparagus vinaigrette or something instead of broccoli? I do like it cooked though but not so keen on the idea of it in salad.

Broccoli is really nice raw in a salad, Costco do a bagged broccoli salad with cashews, dried cranberries, red cabbage and carrots with a yellow dressing - it’s lovely with a rotisserie chicken

The broccoli salad is happening because it's my new favourite thing!!! A few of the people who will be at the BBQ got to try it last week and loved it and those who haven't yet tried it I think will love it (knowing their palette). Even so, there should be plenty besides the broccoli salad to keep people happy ☺️

I'm sure it's lovely! I just wouldn't immediately think I'd enjoy it in salad. But you could be the one to educate me! I'm sure all your stuff will be delicious. And there's loads of great ideas on here too. 😀

For me if think of broccoli and cabbage as being the same thing! But that sounds delicious 😋

It's not something I'd have gone for but I was at a work lunch and it got ordered for the table. I tried it and was instantly in love! Anything that's got spice, crunch and is low-calorie so I can absolutely feast on it is a winner for me! If you're willing to give it a go, try the Dishoom recipe (someone posted it above) - that's the one I'll be making (again!).

Marshmallows to roast on the barbecue, and then dip in chocolate.
