Would you still eat it?

I found a batch of lasagne meat sauce that I made last August in the freezer. We have a separate upright freezer and have had no power cuts or defrosting incidents. Would you still eat it? I know theoretically it should be safe but one of my OCD worries is making my family poorly and we go on holiday on Wednesday. No sign of freezer burn.

Yes

I wouldn’t in your circumstances. I don’t have OCD but am always extra careful prior to trips away. It probably won’t give you food poisoning, but meat products should be eaten within 3 months of freezing for optimum quality.

Yes, assuming you made it safely and defrost and eat within 48h it will be fine.
Bacteria don't grow at -18.

The recommended freezing durations are about quality, not food safety.

Yep, will be fine. Defrost sensibly, cook through thoroughly.

PashaMinaMio · 10/08/2026 18:45

Yes. I’d eat it.

Yes, reheating to piping hot

NewShoes · 10/08/2026 18:47

Yes I’d eat anything in the freezer really!

caringcarer · 10/08/2026 20:42

Yes I'd eat it and enjoy it but if your mind will be in deep worry it might just be easier not to eat it to save yourself stress.

Thank you for your replies. I decided it wasn’t worth the worry before we went away. DS had been looking forward to lasagne and wasn’t happy!
