5 days past use by date - would you still eat it?

I have a garlic mushroom linguine ready meal in my fridge, I didn’t realise the date on it (only got it on Tuesday), I was supposed to have it Friday night which still would have been past the date, but it’s use by date is 05 August, today is the 9th, would it still be safe to eat? Really fancied it for my lunch or dinner today! Not sure if it is a food that might still be ok to eat as there is no meat in it.

100% no.

I eat anything but 4 days is quite a long time. I’d sniff and then nuke it, but tbh I’m not sure I’d risk it. Yoghurt, I just scrape the mould off.

I wouldn’t risk it.

I would if it smelt ok

Best before - maybe
Use by - definitely not

You can usually tell if out-of-date mushrooms are okay by looking at them , but you can't tell when they are already in a dish.

It's a no from me.

I would, sniff it, nuke it really hot.

savemydrawers · 09/08/2026 14:04

No way!

maximist · 09/08/2026 14:18

I’d happily eat it. I’ve eaten older with no ill effects….

Not a ready meal, i wouldn’t risk it! if it was one of two days but 5 days is pushing the limit!

MassiveOvaryaction · 09/08/2026 14:23

If it wasn't obviously green/furry I'd give it a sniff and if that was ok heat it very thoroughly.
