Are these muesli grains suitable for making homemade granola?

Can you tell me what the grains are in this muesli, and whether they are suitable to turn into granola? I would be mixing with spread or oil, sugar, nuts etc and baking in the oven.

They don’t look quite like other muesli’s that I’ve baked, so wondering whether it’s a ‘proper’ muesli. Thanks.

They look like they have some kind of coating on them - cinnamon sugar?? Or are they rye flakes? Should be absolutely fine anyway, granola is pretty forgiving. I use the Recipe Tin recipe with less sugar.

They don’t smell of cinnamon at all, they just smell of dust to be honest.

I looked up rye flakes, the ones I have seem more 3D in appearance, rye flakes look flatter than what I have.

I had an answer on my other post and neither of you said not to turn it into granola, so I’ll give it a go. Thanks!

Personally i use rolled jumbo oats to make my granola - those look a bit like generic ‘wheat flakes’ I think - they may be okay to make granola, I’ve not tried. I find cheaper muesli often bulk out with these? Personally I find they go soggy in muesli but might be crispy in a granola perhaps?

I’m going to try a small amount today, using minimal ingredients. That way, if it’s not good I don’t have anything to lose. I don’t want to eat it as it is so 🤷‍♀️.

Normally I too use jumbo oats etc, but I just want to get rid of what I have.

They don't look very appetizing! But once cooked with sugar, butter etc might be alright! I'm not sure what they are though.

They look even less appetising in the flesh! But I feel it’s a waste to bin them without at least trying!

Normally my granola is tip top delicious 😂.

As pp says, use jumbo oats.

Well that’s what I normally use.

But like I said, I have these already and want to use them.

I was going to do some today but ran out of time. I’ll update here when I’ve tasted them though.

I made the granola! I used half this strange muesli and half normal oats, plus the other stuff. It smells really nice, and I had half a spoon just to taste, delicious ❤️.

It bears zero resemblance to the raw stuff but it is in there! And it tastes exactly like it should do.

Yum! That's awesome. So did you actually find out what the grains were in the end? X

Absolutely no idea. I googled anything that was suggested but nothing looked right, and I threw away the packaging ages ago, it was some cereal that I wasn’t familiar with so maybe another supermarket I don’t go to, or a brand name one 🤷‍♀️.

It looks like something from an 80s health food shop. There are tons of obscure grains out there that are rarely seen in supermarkets and maybe are more used in other countries? Glad it was nice though! 😁
