No cook dessert

I need to take a dessert to a friend's for dinner tomorrow.

Any suggestions that don't require putting an oven in this heat, involve cheesecakes or homemade ice cream?

Thanks in advance!

Mousse or posset?

murasaki · 10/07/2026 14:10

Buy meringues, cream and lots of fruit. Assemble in her kitchen.

Fresh fruit salad?

Trifle

Mary Berry's passion sponge.

Salted caramel tart-
Buy a pre-baked pastry case. Spoon in 1 tin of caramel and smooth over. Sprinkle with a little salt. Melt milk chocolate and using a knife, lay a thin layer on top. Put in fridge to set. SO easy but delicious. Serve with berries.

The pic shows the salt on the top, but I add it inside.

Thanks everyone. ☺️ Plenty of inspiration.

The easiest, most cooling and most elegant dessert I know is thinly sliced oranges and blood oranges sprinkled with sliced dates and slivered almonds. Then you drizzle a tiny bit of Cointreau over the top, add some mint leaves and leave it in the fridge for an hour or so. Let it warm up ever so slightly before serving.

Otherwise, deffo tiramisu!

Bananas. Caramel sauce, meringues and cream.

AmIReallyTheGrownup · 10/07/2026 14:56

Sliced strawberries dressed with a little balsamic & sugar, plus sliced fresh mint if you want, served with very good quality vanilla ice cream.

Strawberries are perfect this time of year, so bought pastry case, sweet custard and topped with strawbs.
Eton Mess
Some sort of fruit fool

Aldi chocolate-covered raspberries and strawberries. They’re magic. Take two bags of each, plus a punnet of fresh strawberries/raspberries, and a fancy glass dish/plate. Put (or if you’re feeling a bit Nigella Lawson, ‘tumble’) them together and let people pick at it.

Tiramisu
Make in advance , it needs settling in time Grin

Anxioustealady · 10/07/2026 15:13

Pistachio tiramisu is nice if you want to make something without alcohol

Or a cheesecake is easy, maybe limoncello flavour

Is there a theme at all?

bladada · 10/07/2026 15:15

Panna Cotta

No theme. BBQ with friends and their kids. I just can't face standing in front of anything that emits heat to prep it 😆

I normally do pavlova, rocky road or something similar. But the oven going on will finish me off. Unfortunately cheesecake isn't that popular with this crew... it is my favourite but wasted on an unappreciative audience tomorrow evening!

Could do a trifle? Buy a Swiss roll instead of baking.

Depending how old the kids are, vanilla ice cream and some sauces and sweets (like an ice cream bar) are popular with kids.

Mix mascarpone and a good ready-made lemon curd. I generally prefer it more mascarpone-heavy so it's less sweet, but you can just do whatever ratio you like the taste of. Serve small helpings in little bowls, glasses or ramekins with fresh berries and good shortbread biscuits. Alternatively, you can use the lemon mix to fill ready-made tartlet shells.

This time of year? Eton mess, loads of strawberries and raspberries. Done in a flash.
