Stupid question about frozen peas

Can you eat frozen peas raw?

I got some out earlier and defrosted them and then mixed them up in a salad.

Then I wondered if you have to cook them

Do you have to cook peas?

I used to eat frozen peas as a child, frozen at the time, but not sure if this was known to my mum!!

It's fine, they can be eaten raw.

They aren’t completely raw because they have to be slightly cooked to stop the, deteriorating once frozen. But they don’t taste as nice as when fully cooked. They won’t do any harm but they might not be easily digested. But what’s done is done.

If you can stomach them lol … it’s no worse than shelling peas and eating raw then, albeit frozen ones likely to have been washed

Absolutely fine. Frozen peas are my kid’s go to snack.

You don’t need to cook peas

I rather think direct from the plant when warm with sun is nicer than frozen myself - years since I could do that

I love grabbing a handful of frozen peas and eating them still cold. I'm not far from 50 and have been doing it as long as I can remember.

The ones I buy used to say they shouldn’t be eaten raw or defrosted on the packet, not sure if they still say that. I remember someone telling me it was due to a risk of listeria when I was pregnant but I don’t know if they were a reliable source. 😬

eta, I’ve just checked Tesco site and the Birds Eye ones I buy still say they shouldn’t be eaten raw or defrosted. I have too much time on my hands clearly. 😂 🫛

I never used to eat cooked peas as a child. My DGM would put some frozen peas in a cup of cold water to thaw them out slightly and then put them on with Sunday lunch!

they won’t make you ill, but will be tastier if you cook them. Half a mug of peas, top up with hot water from the kettle and pop in the microwave for a minute.

You should not eat them raw - I know someone who works in the frozen food industry - I was surprised because I'd been eating them raw for years - look on the packet, they should be cooked. Of course if you don't want to no one can force you.
