Ideas for vegan and gluten free dishes for family barbecue

My BIL is bringing his new gf over, we’re having a small birthday party for my mum and I usually do a bbq and some little picky bits, pasta salad, some dips etc. nothing too fancy. However gf is vegan and gluten free (intolerance but not coeliac, he described it as)

I have no idea what to do for her other than a fruit platter maybe a gluten free pasta? Please can I have some suggestions, I’d like her to feel included and not like she just has a few side dishes to eat. Ideally I’d like to make things that are nice enough other people will eat them too and they won’t go to waste if she doesn’t want them.

@Pumpkindoodles , I personally wouldn’t eat something that had been cooked on a meat BBQ and I would check first if that’s what you plan to do. Have a lovely time.

Sorry do you mean if it had ever had meat cooked on it? I meant i would cook the vegan stuff first. So bbq cleaned after last use, then cooking vegan stuff, then cooking meat after. Would that not be ok?

thanks for the note about putting some to one side

@Pumpkindoodles , if my stuff was cooked on a BBQ that had meat cooked on it even if it had been cleaned I wouldn’t eat it. It may be your guest wouldn’t mind but I would ask. It would be such a shame for you to go to so much effort for her not to feel able to eat what you provide and it would be embarrassing for her too.
Generally if I’m invited to a BBQ I offer to bring my own food that can be popped in the microwave, I explain that I know I’m tricky to cater for.

Field mushrooms BBQ well. You could stuff them with a vegan cream cheese mixed with herbs and top with vegan breadcrumbs.

A rice salad would make a good side dish.

Veggie skewers would be great.

Potatoes BBQ really well too (news wrapped in foil or old potatoes thickly sliced, par-boiled then thrown on to finish).

Hummus would be a good dip option with crudites.

This is useful to know! I had no idea. I figured it was the same as if a pan had cooked chicken then been through the dishwasher, but maybe you wouldn’t like that either. I’ll just get a disposable bbq for her to be safe then.

Plus gluten CC. I'd definitely get a cheap second barbecue, disposable even.

I've made the HFW sweet potato dish using coconut milk instead of double cream.

I did a fruit platter and a fresh veggie platter, gluten free flat bread, veggies on disposable bbq like peppers and corn on the cob, some hummus, falafel, a salad with gf dressing and a bean salad.
I’m going to try some of the recipes mentioned here next time, they sounded great but I tried to keep it as simple as possible this time whilst catering for others too. May do as suggested here for smaller things in the future if she’s coming and make it all gf.
