Just asked ds (3) what he would like for dinner and he said 'smoked salmon please' how poncey is that. Does the boy not realise there's a credit crunch!??!

I have a 4yo who loves "funny ham" - parma, serrano whatever. And ds who asks for sushi in his lunch box. Now that's really poncey in our very rural community! Wish I'd never introduced any of them to nice food.

At my DCs nursery they had to draw a picture of their favourite food. My DS drew smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice (ie with bits!!).

aw!!! i was in tesco with dd (4) the other day and when i said out loud 'what do we need?' she said 'chorizo, parma ham and smoked salmon'.

i didn't know whether to be proud or embarrassed. . i also met a one-year old boy last week who loves olives.

lol swedishmum i'd say a taste for sushi is still a long way off.

hertsnessex · 25/06/2008 11:20

my 4yo loves mussels (and cockles) and regularly asks for them for dinner - not as ponce as lobster etc but still - even i wont eat mussels!

pickie · 25/06/2008 11:25

DS's favorite veg are asparagus and king prawns. Olives they both ate from a very young age.

Dd loves mussels as well.

never tried them on sushi, do you make them yourself or buy them?

Love2bake · 25/06/2008 11:33

My DS's love all the expensive things too like cherries, bluberry's, raspberries instead of apples etc.

They also love Aromatic duck from the chinese, so take-aways are never cheap.

MuffinMclay · 25/06/2008 11:49

LOL at this. Ds1 is going through a phase where he will only eat smoked salmon and raspberries. Nothing else will do.

morethanyoubargainfor · 25/06/2008 11:55

we have a steak monster in our house!! luckily my butcher is used to him an keeps some smaller bits aside for him!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/06/2008 11:56

ds is the same - sushi, duck wraps, cherries...

thebecster · 25/06/2008 11:57

Oh my poor little boy. He went pretend shopping yesterday, travelling in a boat (cardboard box with paper 'sails') to get there and told me he was going to get 'whatever's on special offer'. He's 2, and is used to me going around the supermarket with a calculator and a list of price comparisons... But he seems happy enough, just determined to drive a hard bargain .

lulumama · 25/06/2008 11:57

schneebly was looking after my 2 the other week, asked DS what he wanted for dinner, and he asked for sushi he got fishfingers!!

mrshedge · 25/06/2008 14:28

Lol Pickie and Herts - when they as for Moules not mussels now that will be poncetastic!

It would be a whole lot cheaper if these dc's loved fruit shoots and cheese strings.

Ds also loves putting black pepper on his food which is quite poncey too I think!

How will my poor darling cope when he is kicked out of home and a struggling student who can't buy smoked salmon and asparagus anymore?!?!

[disclaimer: in case anyone is going to pounce on me, my last statement is tongue in cheek re him being a student)

LO sounds like my dd, who at 3 got a liking for oysters!

Her list of favourite foods include mussels, olives, asparagus, artichoke, smoked salmon, king prawns and steak. I blame my FIL for corrupting her palate. WHen I was little my mother used to give us liver when her and my father were having steak and told us it was the same

mrshedge · 25/06/2008 14:51

ask not as .....
