I'm making a cake for a family birthday party.
Party is on the Saturday, I am travelling down the Friday night after work - two hours drive, twisty and mountainous in places.
Should I:
- Make and freeze cakes, take cakes and icing ingredients to party venue (MIL's house), assemble and ice on the Saturday morning. (The hitch here may well be that I have never seen MIL's freezer with an atom of space in it, certainly not enough for three layers of cake, so cake will be thawed by Saturday when I'm icing it)
- Make cakes. Crumb coat, fill, assemble and freeze, then proceed as above, doing final icing on Saturday. (Hitch above now even more significant as cake will be one large unit at this point! )
- As 2 but crumb coat each layer without filling or assembling, freeze and then as above
- Something else I haven't thought of.
