My larder is looking a bit bare and I've decided to treat myself to two or three new preserves, jams or marmalades to try. What are your favourite shop bought ones please? Before anyone suggests it, I'm not looking to make my own!

Bonne Maman jams. Taste like proper jam, not synthetic crap!

EveryKneeShallBow · 19/06/2026 16:19

Definitely Bonne Maman. Personal favourite is blackcurrant.

Bonne maman, esp the berries and cherries for jams.

For marmalade I actually like the Asda extra special one.

FadedRed · 19/06/2026 17:38

Tesco taste the difference Lemon Curd.

This.

Bonne maman is the best. I will add the plum ones (especially damson) to the list as well. Otherwise any of their blue/purple ones (blueberry, blackberry, cherry) are excellent.

Frank Coopers marmalade

Tiptree 'Tiny Tip' Raspberry, Tiptree Strawberry (if I'm buying, but I normally make my own strawberry jam), Frank Cooper marmalade, Bonne Maman apricot.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/06/2026 21:22

Yes to BM damson too - lovely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/06/2026 21:22

And Duchy Originals lemon curd, if they still do it - not had it for a while.

Lidl have a delicious blueberry jam.
Frank Cooper marmalade.

OP do you have a farm shop near you? They always have the most amazing jams etc. failing that, if you really want to push the boat out then you could order some online from fortnum and mason.

Bonne Maman, and if you can get Follaín it’s my fave (not sure if it’s sold outside of Ireland)

ExquisiteDressing · 19/06/2026 21:33

Bonne Maman raspberry for me

Yep, yep and yep! All my favourites

M&S Seville orange marmalade. Thick cut and dark. It’s divine.

Bonne Maman for the jam. Blackcurrant, Apricot and Raspberry. If you like strawberry try their Wild Strawberry & Strawberry. It's delicious and I don't even like strawberries!

For marmalade, I'm afraid nothing commercial tastes anywhere as good as homemade. Local summer fairs or markets often have WI stalls or similar selling preserves. I think that's your best bet for a good marmalade.

This is the one I buy too when I need to, but whenever I have time I make this recipe. It's amazing and I haven't seen a commercial equivalent. I would highly recommend. rivercottage.net/recipes/bramley-lemon-curd/

Bonne Maman or jam for our local farm shop. Also bought some at Clarksons Farm recently which was delicious.

Kabloom · 20/06/2026 07:48

Had some Stute raspberry jam recently from the corner shop which was amazing and didn’t last much longer than a week. Think it’s low sugar so higher fruit content. Also the St Dalfour spreads and La Vieja Fabrica marmalades are incredible too.

I came across Dauntsey Preserves after receiving a gift pack, and they're now my go-to for jams / preserves / chutneys / marmalades if I don't have any homemade or fancy something different. I particularly like the Jerusalem artichoke chutney and rhubarb and ginger preserve.

Dauntsey Preserves

Deliciously handmade jam preserves, chutney and marmalade from Dauntsey – great as gifts or a self-indulgence. Online and at farm shops and food festivals.

I used to say Tiptree Little Scarlett was the ultimate jam but have since found Duchy Originals Strawberry (or Raspberry) and it is even better.
Available in Waitrose.
Also love Single Variety jams and marmalade, only available online and rather expensive but well worth it for a treat.
The blackberry jam , the strawberry jam and the lemon marmalade are all fabulous.
They sell beautiful gift box selections which make a great present.
