What's a good dessert after an Indian curry. A friend is making a meal which will be huge and very good. She's asked me to bring dessert. Any suggestions?

It has to be gluten free.

Mango (or other fruit) sorbet?

SuperGinger · 16/06/2026 12:24

Mango and blueberries or even strawberries

SleepingStandingUp · 16/06/2026 12:25

was gonna say ice cream or sorbet. Mango is a good call, maybe with some fresh fruit

macaroni234 · 16/06/2026 12:26

Fruit cream and meringues nests? Fruit salad. Orange polenta cake?
My MIL makes various delicious puddings that have almond flour in.

tealandteal · 16/06/2026 12:28

I wouldn’t take sorbet unless you check they have room in their freezer! How many are you feeding?

CokeinBottles · 16/06/2026 12:29

Iced parfait
Ice cream with fruit (mango is a good call)
Eton mess (there is a nice recipe in Persiana (I think) called Eastern Mess, which is basically Eton mess with raspberries, rosewater and pistachio, which would work very well- you can make all the bits ahead and then assemble just before serving)

I’m obsessed with basque cheesecake at the moment. This Milky Bar version has been an absolute smash hit every time it’s been served. It can be made in advance and travels well. It would also be nice with fruit if people want to lighten it.

Milky Bar Basque Cheesecake

In this recipe, Alexina Anatole adds a white chocolate ganache to the filling of a creamy Basque cheesecake to make it yet more irresistible.

Possets are an easy but light one. Choice of flavour too.

capelmustard · 16/06/2026 12:31

Pavlova is my go to summer gluten free dessert, with cream, raspberry and passion fruit

MassiveOvaryaction · 16/06/2026 15:58

Sticking with the theme - kulfi or ras malai?

Reader19 · 16/06/2026 19:57

Gooseberry fool or lemon posset. Or just fresh fruit.

Gooseberry fool or lemon posset. Or just fresh fruit.

Also coming on to say lemon posset. Yum

pastabest · 16/06/2026 20:07

Dead easy to make any kind of cheesecake with gluten free ginger nuts/ digestives as a sub.

Also loads of great gluten free STP recipes out there in the world - lots of pubs etc make gluten free sticky toffee pudding as a default these days.

Tabarnak · 16/06/2026 20:26

Mary Berry’s chocolate roulade

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 16/06/2026 20:33

My Mum has coeliac disease and I usually do creme brulee and a pavlova or eton mess which uses up the whites of the eggs. Both are quick and easy, can be prepared the night before and giving a choice feels fancy.

WendyHoused · 16/06/2026 20:40

Any kind of fool (gooseberry, rhubarb, lemon, whatever) is lovely after a curry. Zesty but with dairy to cool any chilli heat.

They are also dead easy.

MarthaBerry · 16/06/2026 21:49

Flourless chocolate cake - if dark chocolate it won’t be too sweet , or pavlova, or gluten free trifle - my son is coeliac and I make loads of puds. Self saucing chocolate pudding was a recent hit

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePleaseBarista · 16/06/2026 21:53

Lemon possets with fresh raspberries.

Chewbecca · 16/06/2026 21:58

Eton Mess or strawberry roulade after a curry at this time of year.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/06/2026 22:00

Pistachio and/or mango kulfi.

WeddingInvitation · 17/06/2026 11:34

@Tabarnak that's a new one for you - I really like that idea https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chocolate_roulade_79152

And I would make basque cheesecake but I've done that a few times for the same couple...

Mary Berry's chocolate roulade is as light as feather, creamy and chocolatey all at the same time. No one will believe how easy it was to make either!

Think about what your tastebuds would fancy after a curry.
For me it would be a coconut tapioca pudding with mango chunks.

tartyflette · 17/06/2026 12:08

A standard Eton mess always goes down very well as a typical English summer dessert/pudding whenever I have brought it along as my contribution to a meal, especially if there are non-English guests there,
You can make a large bowl, decorated with whole strawberries and mint leaves, or individual ones on meringue nests, also with a whole strawberry and spring of mint.
