Ideas for World Cup snacks/meals eaten on lap please

We quite often have people over to watch the football during the World Cup. Partly because we have a bigger TV than some of DH‘s football loving friends (a fact, not a boast honest) and DH enjoys watching with other people who understand the game better than I do and it’s just a good excuse to have people round. I don’t mind the cooking, I love entertaining.
Depending on the time of the game, I either serve nibbles (crisps, cheese straws, dips, olives, loaded nachos etc) or for something more meal-like (pizza, homemade burgers, pulled pork rolls or hotdogs made with decent sausages with wedges and coleslaw).
Need to be mainly a things that can be picked up, with a fork for eg coleslaw.
Cheese and crackers often served too.

Whilst I’m happy to go with the above again, I’m always interested in what others serve for similar occasions.

Ideas please!

I never host any sporting event, but would likely do some of these:

-Charcuterie board, bread and cheeses
-anti-pasto platter with olives, picked veg, mini peppers with cheese
-sushi
-Vietnamese summer rolls. Lots of your tube videos on how to roll them
-These can have almost any filling. Ham, bacon, salami, tomato, semi dried tomato, tuna/sweet corn, various cheeses etc https://www.amummytoo.co.uk/filo-pastry-mini-quiches-great-for-kids-to-make-and-eat/

-Sausage rolls

Thank you @7238SM, loveliy ideas. Not sure why I hadn’t thought of a charcuterie board, ideal for evenings when I don’t have much time for making stuff

We usually BBQ when hosting a crowd - lots of things on skewers.

I would probably try to theme it a bit based on the game - find a fun snack to try to make from whatever country is playing.

We went to a friends for poke bowls once and it was yummy. They made loads of sticky rice and had tons of different toppings to choose from. Just for something different.

Or go pie and Bovril.

I'm not going to add any specific ideas, but you could make it a bit more themed by making food traditional to the teams playing?

So if it's Mexico v US - you could do nachos and mini burgers? Or Spain v Germany, could be style tapas dishes and bratwurst?

I do generally do that - sorry I missed out of the OP. Depending on the time of the matches we might eat before or after so more scope for eg BBQ but I think this year I think we will be mainly eating during the match in front of TV

I went to an event last night where the buffet included open sandwiches. My Mum always made these but you rarely see them these days. I’m thinking a tray of these and sausage rolls would go down well with the group I am feeding on one of the nights. Adding to this thread for anyone else looking for ideas.

Excuse my ignorance but is an open sandwich one with just 1 piece of bread and bits on top, so similar to melba toast or pintxos?

Another idea if you didn't want to theme every meal, is just to get those little world flags on sticks.

Sorry yes an open sandwich is one that just has bread on the bottom, I know them best with half a bread roll but you can make with more solid type bread like rye bread. They can look very attractive set out on a tray with a variety of toppings.

I know what you mean and sound delicious. FYI- I'd be happy to bring a plate and come over too- even though I'm not a massive football fan 😁

You’d be very welcome and you can sit in the kitchen with me and drink wine with the sandwiches. I don’t mind football but also happy to miss it until the later stages
