Drinks and nibbles

Got a few friends over for wine on Saturday night, I’m bored of the usual nibbles of hummus, olives etc etc

any fun summery ideas? I’m a competent cook and happy to make stuff. Only thing I’ve come up with is grilled aparagus wrapped in bacon or aubergine

Watermelon and feta on skewers? Mini bruschetta? I’m loving anything with blue cheese and hot honey at the moment, I had them both on a pizza which was great

Can’t beat a blini with cream cheese and smoked salmon with a good squeeze of lemon juice.

Cheese Straws

Good old fashioned mushroom vol au vents

Mini mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes on a cocktail stick

love a black grape and a chunk of cheddar.

Hmm. 🤔 feeling peckish now.

Muhammara is delicious and dead easy if you buy decent grilled red peppers. Needs pomegranate molasses tho

Tzatziki is always popular, with crudites and pitta strips

Could do blue cheese & walnut in a chicory leaf with a little honey drizzled on top

Tomatoes are just starting to get good now so pan con tomate maybe, or pico de gallo with tortilla chips

Stir fried blanched almonds with salt. somehow more delicious than the toasted almonds in packets

Oh and padron peppers

These are all fab ideas!

Agree with padron peppers, easy to make loads, and don’t take long to fry.( I usually shop in a large Tesco and haven’t seen them there, yet our smallish Sainsbury’s stocks them).

Sliced chorizo ring, cooked in a frying pan so the fat melts out a bit, cooked with a splash of red wine until the wine is absorbed.

Roast cherry tomatoes in a medium oven until semi-dried, and put on cocktail sticks with feta cubes or mozzarella balls. Optionally drizzle with balsamic glaze

I love good old fashioned cheese and pineapple on sticks - served as a ‘hedgehog’

Sour cream & blue cheese mashed or whizzed together makes a simple dip.

Homemade gravadlax, takes a couple of days, I reckon you could just about squeeze it in! Totally stunning, so summery, great with evening drinks!

Another vote for Padron peppers here. They are delicious.
A bit fiddly but stuff green Jalapeno Peppers with brie and a touch of chilli Jam, wrap in bacon and bake in the oven until bacon is all crispy
and Nigella's Roquamole is always a big hit with homemade Pitta chips.
Roquamole

Roquamole

Although I have called this incredible blue cheese and avocado dip roquamole, I actually make it with St Agur rather than Roquefort. But do feel free to use any blue cheese you want, of course, bearing in mind that the creamier it is, the easier it wi...

Sweet potato wedges covered in Morrocan seasoning

How about dates stuffed with goats cheese & a roast almond then wrapped in Serrano ham or bacon. Make them in advance & cook them in the airfryer for a few minutes when you’re ready for them. They’re delicious!

Just updating the thread post drinks, I did aubergine bruschetta, feta and watermelon skewers, grilled roast potatoes slices with olives, capers and trout, padron/shishito peppers, asparagus wrapped in Parma ham/aubergine, chicory leaves with blue cheese, walnuts and honey then a fruit and chocolate platter

thanks for all the suggestions!
