Best vegetarian custard options for trifle using non-dairy milk

Any advice welcome! I have been asked to make a vegetarian trifle and would welcome suggestions regarding the custard. Reviews on line for ready made custards are confusing - have looked at Ambrosia and M&S. Any recommendations for a good tasting, not too sweet, thick custard? Or should I make with Birds custard powder (as I usually do) but replace cow’s milk with another milk? If so what works well? Oat? Almond? Soya? Or other ideas?
To avoid dripfeeding I have already forced Wibble vegetarian jelly!

Is it vegetarian or vegan trifle you've been asked to make? If vegetarian, then as long as you have vegetarian jelly, normal ready made custard, or bird's custard made with cow's milk will be fine - milk is vegetarian. If its vegan custard then most ready made custards will be no good as they have milk and possibly eggs in them. You might be able to find ready made vegan custard somewhere though as vegan items are becoming more easily available. Bird's custard powder is egg free so you could make that with a non dairy milk (I've not tried so can't recommend which I'm afraid).

Thanks so much RichardMarxisinnocent. I had no* *idea that cow’s milk was acceptable to vegetarians! My trifle will definitely not be served to vegans, only vegetarians.

Just in case anyone ever has to make a vegan trifle: the Alpro vanilla desserts would be fine as the custard layer as they are similar to custard in taste, thickness and colour.

I would use birds custard powder with oat milk, and if you have some, a little extra vanilla extract.

If it’s vegetarian it isn’t the custard you need to think about, it’s the jelly. If your trifle has jelly in it (mine doesn’t)

Thanks all for your helpful suggestions! In answer to questions I have already sourced Wibble vegetarian jelly.
