Making your own popcorn

I've bought popcorn kernels and tried making it, it popped, no problems. But how to flavour it? I tried mixing sugar and salt, but it didn't stick to the popcorn. I'm loathe to buy flavouring online because of additives, palm oil etc. How do you flavour your popcorn?

Mix butter and oil when popping, add salt after. Stay away from sweet popcorn, but imagine a bit of icing sugar instead of salt would do it.

It needs to be slightly oily to make it stick. If you melt a bit of butter in a pan, add some oil and toss the popcorn then you can add the salt and sugar and it should be fine

I used oil but it didn't stick at all. I'll try again with butter added.

I cook it in sunflower oil and then toss it in melted butter, salt and sugar once it’s popped (it is not a health food 😂)

do you like marmite OP? If so I HIGHLY recommend melting a little butter, stirring a teaspoon of marmite into the melted butter and then drizzling over the popcorn. It’s fabulous.

Nutella. Just dollop it in and stir for ages. It’s very fiddly but tastes amazing. We also started eating with no flavourings as it’s much healthier and just as tasty.

My partner put loads of pepper on popcorn recently, and Parmesan on another time. Both banging.

As soon as it had popped, leave it in the pan, shake on icing sugar, put the pan lid on and give it a good shake. The icing sugar melts in the residual heat and sticks to the popcorn.

I like a bit of cayenne and lime juice
