Food for vegan who has Crohn’s

Fushia123 · 22/04/2026 18:58

Am making a quick lunch for 15 people. Have made tasty vegan stews and pies in the past and have found it efficient to cater for vegans, vegetarians and others this way. This time, one guest has Crohn's disease.
Please can you share any vegan dishes that he could also eat? Cooking for a lot of people so being able to scale up is essential.
Thank you.

Would it be easier to just ask him what he can eat ?

Easylifeornot · 22/04/2026 19:06

It’s very specific to the individual. Some people with Crohns won’t need any restrictions on their while some may avoid some foods and a few with have major restrictions.

I have severe fistulising Crohns on biologics.
I can eat anything apart from steak or beef stews.
I love a curry and can tolerate lentil curry for example.

Best to ask him, as we all have different triggers.

He can’t eat peas, sweetcorn or pepper. This is going to be tricky! I’m making a bit pan of blended soup too, so there will be something that he can eat. Just wanted to give him a choice like the others have.

OP, I am vegan and have Crohn’s. But it’s totally individual what things may or may not be a trigger for him, and he may not have any food triggers at all. I think you need to just ask him. I wouldn’t be offended at all to be asked if it was me!

Fellow fistula sufferer on biologics here!

@opin the nicest possible way, just don’t make anything with peas, sweetcorn or peppers in…… that leaves you with a huge myriad of choices.

MiddleAgedDread · 22/04/2026 19:36

What are you making the non vegans?

mindutopia · 23/04/2026 16:42

Soup with baguette and vegan spread (butter for everyone else) is lovely

I’f also include some crudite, breadsticks, pita with hummus, smashed avocado and other dips (store bought except for the avocado)

And a nice pudding.

A bit baffling that someone with Crohn's would choose to restrict their food options even more by being vegan. Tell him there will be soup and he can bring his own choice of food to have with it.

This.
Or alternatively, don't be a dick and just accept that people can have health restrictions AND make ethical choices!

OP - If those are his only 3 forbidden foods, it should should quite easy to cater for him, no? But maybe before you go in chickpea-heavy, check that he's definitely ok with them, as they're quite close to peas!
