Savoury recipes with lime

I have recently started using lime just to drizzle over grilled fish and salads and I'm really enjoying the lime combined with savory rather than sweet. Anyone got any amazing recipes with lime to share?

Fish with chilli and lime is always a good one.

Or fish tacos -

I whizz up white fish with garlic, lime zest, salt and coriander. Squeeze out all excess moisture you can, make into squashed golfball sized patties and gently fry one both sides for 3 or 4 minutes.

Squeeze the zested lime and add the juice to a ramekin of finely sliced red onions and a generous pinch of salt. Leave to sit for a good 15 minutes for a quick pickle to go with the fish.

Then it's shredded lettuce, slices of avocado, the fish patties and the red onions in tacos or wraps - delicious!

I know this isn’t lime but a cafe I go to serve their jacket potato with salad and a wedge of orange. It is amazing squeezed over the spud.

Thanks - it's really pretty quick! I assemble the fish patty ingredients and squeeze the liquid out, then I usually let them rest in the fridge for a bit while I do the quick pickled red onions.

You can add any salsas, refried black beans, sour cream, lime and coriander rice or whatever else you fancy to bulk the meal out. It's a longtime favourite.

Fry garlic & ginger in a little oil, add small broccoli florets & toss, add s+p and a little water. Cook until just tender & add a splash of lime juice.

I make a fresh lime salsa which is good with grilled chicken, fish and lots of Asian-ish rice dishes.
It’s chopped fresh tomatoes (about two for two people) a crushed clove of garlic, a finely chopped spring onion, ditto a hot fresh chilli, bit of salt and the juice of one fresh lime. Mix it all together and add chopped fresh coriander at the end. (Optional)

I really like orange wedges with smoked mackerel and salad.

I make a misp, jalapeños and corn soup which I add a squeeze of lime to. And a roasted sweet potato and peanut soup that benefits from lime too. Try it in salsa, or on corn on the cob with Paprika.

Laksa is easy to make (especially if you can track down the Waitrose cooks ingredients laksa paste, just fry off, add stock and coconut cream and then veg, meat, rice noodles) and really benefits from a squeeze of lime at the end.
Second suggestion is not savoury but we love mango lassi made with mango puree, acid yogurt (like pakeeza or Lancashire brand which is quite old school tasting) thinned with milk and then cardomom powder and lime juice added.

Fab thread! A good ole guacamole with avocado, fresh coriander, diced cherry Toms, fresh garlic, salt pepper and loads of lime…. Mmmm

Ixta Belfrage's first solo book (mezcla) includes a lot of recipes using lime including this lush salad
https://jonoandjules.com/2022/08/07/green-salad-with-maple-lime-sesame-dressing/

If you have an international food store near you, I'd also recommend buying dried limes and dried black limes. This from Noor Murad's book Lugma is stunning
https://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/black-lime-loomi-and-lemon-spatchcock-chicken/

Both Ixta and Noor worked at Ottolenghi's test kitchen and were co-authors on some of his books before branching out by themselves.

I cook a lot of Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern food, and lime is a standard ingredient with fish, curries, chicken, beef, lamb, soups - you name it. I’ve got 66 recipes featuring lime in my recipe app 😂, if you’re looking for anything specific I’m your gal. But think chermoula chicken, Balinese fish curry, beef rendang, vietnamese meatballs, Persian lamb stew etc.

I also love this street food Mexican sweetcorn salad, which I make with feta cheese (Greek-Mexican fusion? why not) https://www.jocooks.com/wprm_print/14488

If you don’t already have one, I would recommend this zester, it’s so much better than any other I’ve had, makes zesting a doddle. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Joseph-Handi-Zest-Multi-Function-Zester-Green/dp/B01BPDXKTI
