Have you ever had homemade burritos? I want to try making them using this recipe

Hi all. I'm planning on trying to make burritos at home quite soon. I would like to follow this recipe https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/easy-beef-burritos

I noticed that it asks for a casserole pan. I don't actually have one - I have regular saucepans and frying pans however. Would this suffice for the purposes of the recipe? Or do I really need the casserole? Also with the chopped tomatoes, is it ok to use non-Mutti or supermarket own-brand tomatoes? I tried Mutti a while back and didn't feel like they were worth the price. Also I will most likely be using own-brand ground cumin, dried oregano and ground cayenne pepper. The recipe doesn't mention specific brands so I assume these should all be ok. Would you change anything?

Easy beef burritos

Make these easy beef burritos for a simple midweek supper. The meat filling is also great stuffed into a crispy taco, or as an easy chilli con carne with rice

I’m sure you can use a saucepan that’s big enough. I’d use own brand tinned tomatoes no worries. All your spices will be fine, I use a bit of paprika, cayenne or chilli powder as well as all the ones in the recipe. You can chop a red or green pepper to add too if you want. Good luck!

Oh burritos are so easy and so yum. Most shops/supermarkets do a burrito sachet mix. I literally cut up an onion, throw in mince, chopped up peppers- somwtimes chuck in different types of beans if im making them for lots of people) chuck sachet over everything, fry off. Job done. I do mine in a wok 🤣 but have done it in many a sauce pan too. Don't over think it 😊

I think that recipe looks great, OP! I'm guessing you're not a super experienced cook (not a criticism at all, just gauging my suggestions).

I think they've suggested a casserole here just to give you plenty of room for all the ingredients. I'd use either your biggest frying pan or your biggest saucepan. If the sauce pan isn't non stick that isn't a problem, just use a bit more oil.

Make sure you take your time browning the onion - I think recipes timings always get this wrong! The aim is to get it nice and soft and a little brown without burning it.

If you've got time I'd also allow it to simmer down for longer than 20 minutes - it helps concentrate the flavours, especially when cooking with tinned tomatoes.

Personally I do like Mutti tomatoes but they are a little pricier and regular supermarket tomatoes will be just fine. Absolutely no problem using non branded ingredients for spices etc.

Enjoy your burritos! Yum!
