Frozen chicken soup

I bought a carton of chicken and veg Coop soup last July and froze it immediately. Just gone to finally defrost if for the kid’s dinner and noticed it says to use within one month. Chat GPT reckons it’s fine but I hate using freezer meat, it already terrifies me. What would you do?

It will be perfectly safe. Just a chance that the textures/ flavours will be a little impaired. Nothing I'd worry about with soup. Just ensure you thoroughly reheat.

I think it’s totally safe to eat from a bacteria / safety point! I’m sure the timings for frozen food to be consumed are around how the food continues to break down slowly in the freezer so sometimes texture / taste can change the longer it is stored - so if you ate it within a month of freezing it it’s likely still at peak quality.

Thank you, I have such a fear of food poisoning with freezer food. No idea where it’s come from but we have 1 week til payday and can’t afford another big shop so going to have to get over it!

@lightningatmidnightthe freezer stops bacteria growth so as long as you defrost as per instructions, you won’t encourage any sort of bacteria growth to make you ill 😊

It’s just the enzymes etc that continue breaking down (much slower when frozen) in the freezer so will possibly impact the structure of the food so it might be just be less texturally pleasing or not as well flavoured! But that won’t make you ill, it just won’t quite be the same taste as it would be if you consumed after one month 😊

I am also super suspicious of freezer food half the time 😂
