Has anyone made saffron buns? I love them so thought I would like to have a go.
Not something you can buy easily unless you are in Cornwall.

I've never made them but I have made hot cross buns and other yeasted sweet buns. Lovely. I see from Google that Morrison's may have saffron buns. Waitrose used to do them, I think, but don't seem to now. Would be interested to see how you get on if you do make them.

Waitrose used to sell them at least ten years ago. Sadly missed!
No Morrisons near me.
I have ordered some online occasionally from the Cornish Company which were very nice.

I have found recipes seem to vary quite a lot (Rick Stein’s version seems especially deviant!) but the which one I like and seems to be the most authentic and traditional is fairly simple consists of saffron steeped in boiling water, strong plain flour, caster sugar, currants plus half and half butter / lard (but I will use Trex as am vegetarian).

I will post a photo tomorrow once they are done.

Will be using an air fryer because I’m disabled and can’t manage my ordinary oven anymore but it usually works well for baking so should be fine.
