Slow cooker recipe ideas please

I’ve got a 6-L slow cooker which is amazing, but I’m bored of making the same things. I mostly cook a chicken casserole or chilli con carne.

I’ve got a week off now to potter, do chores and a bit of me time. I can chuck on a slow cooker most days.

Please share your go to slow cooker delights.

ThankX

I really like the Justine Pattison recipes on this site (not so keen on those from
others): www.bbc.co.uk/food/collections/easy_slow_cooker_recipes

I follow Archer Kitchen and Bored of Lunch who both have lots of slow cooker recipes - am yet to have a dud one.

This is my favourite, usually add extra carrots and turnip. My sister usually adds in new potatoes but such a good one for bulking out too!

Gammon joint around 4 quid from home bargains, really filling and tasty. I don’t add the chilli as I am a wimp but doesn’t feel like it’s missing any taste because of that.

I agree with the Bored of lunch and Archer Kitchen suggestions, I also love Taming twins the beef and broccoli is a regular here. I also love Dean Edwards, especially this Korean beef noodle recipe.

Hayley dean is another who does great recipes but she seems to have removed a lot of them since the book release.

There are 2 Bored of Lunch slow cooker books which are brilliant.

If you have any money for recipe books, the “Bored of Lunch Slow Cooker Books” have some great recipes in them.

There are 3 slow cooker books. There are also about 30 slow cooker recipes in Nathan’s latest book “Healthy Fakeaways”, the other 100 or so recipes are for the air fryer, I don’t have one of those unfortunately so I’m not buying that book.

Pea and ham soup. Mine is thick and more like a stew though.
-1x smoked ham hock/knuckle
-2x boxes QUICK soak peas. I can buy it from asda and tescos. Soak as per instructions and once done, drain well with fresh water
-Throw in any veg you have. Onions, carrots, potatoes, celery etc

I've made a lasagne in a slow cooker, but honestly, don't bother! It required all the usual stove top cooking then layering in the slow cooker. More tricky because of the oval shape of my slow cooker and the lasagne sheets being rectangles! It tasted fine, but didn't have a crispy top and just such a faff.

Rice pudding! The old fashioned, thick stodgy creamy one. OK perhaps not really selling it but it’s amazing.

Dadthefoodie pops up on my Facebook with slow cooker reels but I think hes on Instagram too. Made a chicken korma from his recipe this week for my spice hating DGD. All just dumped in the slow cooker, no pre prep.Went down very well.

Thank you for that - I have tried a couple of other recipes from that website and not been impressed but they weren't her's. I may now have JP's Honey and Garlic Chicken in my slow cooker........

ChaChaChaChanges · 28/01/2026 18:37

My kids all wolf down the honey and garlic chicken! I generally add onion at the start and peas right at the end, in an attempt to get some veg in them….

But our favourite is the beef ragu, which is truly excellent. The paprika chicken is good too, and kids like the pulled pork tacos although I can take or leave them.

I discovered Taming Twins site recently and have loved lots of the recipes:

  • Whole roast chicken. It's so different from too dry oven roast and I always add extra veg and a mug of water to get left with lots of ready-made stock.
  • Pulled pork.
  • Chicken and bacon casserole. I use it for pie fillings, pasta bakes or with jacket potatoes.
  • Chicken Korma.
  • Chicken Tikka Masala.
BBC Good Food slow cooker korma. I double it then add two tins of chickpeas and a mug of red lentils. I double all the recipes and end up with lots in the freezer. I'm going to check out some of the other recommendations on here too!

Ooh thank you - will be chucking in some peas later - I was going to add spring onion then as well - will add normal onion next time.
