Mustard Powder

Can’t get it anywhere! Have all the jars of ready made mustard but I like to add a good spoonful to cheese sauce, scones etc.
What’s happened to it?

I got mine in Sainsbury's. It's better for baking cheese scones etc. than ready mixed.

When I was searching for this loads of other options came up. It hasn't gone away.

Bought some in Tesco recently. I guess maybe a lot of people bought some for Christmas and places are sold out?

Honey mixed with mustard powder glaze on Duck or Ham are my go tos.

I’ve never had a problem finding it but out of interest have just checked the Tesco website and it’s out of stock online at the moment .
Ready made will be fine, even in scones. I’d mix it with a bit of the water you are going to add to the rubbed in mix to make it blend more easily.

Autumn, can I ask what kind of container their spices etc come in? Jars or tins
or just wrapped in plastic please?

Clear plastic bags, unfortunately, with full labelling about origins, BBE, etc, although I understand that this is just for local (UK) shipping and they don’t sit in plastic for main shipping and warehouse storage.

(I may be wrong.)

I decant them asap into clear jars and make my own mixes.

I've not been able to get mustard powder for a while now. I wonder, is it as simple as grinding mustard seeds to make it yourself?

I saw it in real life this week in my local Sainsbury’s.

I bought some Colmans powder in the yellow rectangular tin maybe a month or so ago in a major supermarket (probably Sainsbury’s) so it’s definitely still available. I don’t remember the exact details but I have a vague feeling that it was in a different aisle to where you’d expect, not with the other herbs and spices. Possible you’re looking in the wrong place? Did you ask the shop attendants?

Currently in stock at Ocado, if the app is to be believed. I'd be devastated if the yellow Colman's tins ever disappear.

I have just found it in stock online at Waitrose and I’m visiting a town with a store this weekend so will check it out!
Also found it at Wilton Wholefoods in Wilts so may use them if I get stuck as they have a wide range of spices etc.

I just add the ready made stuff to sauces. Use cayenne for scones.

Got mine in Sainsburys about a month ago but had been looking elsewhere and hadnt found it

Careful of the tin, its completely impractical, you open it and the powder is above the top of the top of the tin (if that makes sense)

My local Sainsbury's had loads on the shelf (alongside other condiments) yesterday.

Recently when I made cheese scones I had none so ground mustard seeds in a mortar and pestle and that worked well. I wonder why there’s a shortage.
