Slow cooker ideas

9 replies

I've had a slow cooker for a few years that doesn't get much use. However my days have now changed and I am home in the mornings and then out all afternoon / early evening. By the time I'm in I haven't got the energy to cook so thinking I need to utilise slow cooker more.

Any easy recipes or advice? To feed a family of 4. Nothing too spicey! I'm not a great cook so needs to be fairly simple!

TIA

I love this, I do how ever cook the broccoli speak before adding to the sauce when ready to serve. have a look at her website, I've tried loads and really liked them all.

I also use Bored of Lunch, Archers kitchen, Dean Edwards and Archer kitchen for ideas. They all have books but lots of their recipes are available online too.

Chinese Style Beef and Broccoli {Slow Cooker Fakeaways}

This Slow Cooker Beef and Broccoli stir fry-style recipe is made with a sticky, tangy, rich Chinese-style sauce and is the perfect fakeaway.

I use ordinary recipes, there are on-line resources with time adaptations.
Just remember to use less liquid as it doesn't evaporate in a s.c., & fresh herbs need to be added at the end of cooking.

Look af Archer Kitchen on Instagram. She has some lovely easy recipes that always taste great.

Bored of Lunch is also good.

I use mine loads. I do beef casserole, chicken curry, spaghetti Bol, chilli con carne, meatballs etc in it. I just do the normal recipe and slightly less liquid. Sometimes I even just throw in chicken veg and a jar of curry sauce. Or use the Colman’s powder mixes for the chilli etc. if it’s too watery at the end I take the lid off and turn it to high for about 30 mins and it reduces a bit. Saves me on so many takeaways when I come home and can’t be bothered!

I don’t have the exact recipe or quantities but I used to do a lovely pork knuckle dish, they sat on a couple of slices of onion and a tin of boron beans and the liquid was a choice of apple juice or cider.

But I will watch this thread for ideas too as I want to get my slow cooked back in action and need ideas for quantities for 1-2/3 people (I am solo but don’t mind freezing leftovers to reheat another night).

We've had this tonight, I don't think it's spicy but I am a bit of a spice addict (like my username). Bought the beef cheeks from Morrison's but I think any beef would work.
