Just made a slow cooker beef stew in 5 hours rather than 8 and it was way better!

I did the "Beef in Red Wine with Melting Onions" from the BBC Goodfood slow cooker book (just used braising steak). Usually beef stew recipes are for 8 hours or so in the slow cooker, and I always find the meat too dried out so had gone off them a bit.

But this one had 5 hours on 'low' in the recipe and was perfect. Anyone else found this? This might revolutionise my slow cooker repertoire!

I can see the appeal of making it in the morning for 8 hours later but I prefer making it at lunchtime as we eat about 6ish anyway.

I always find 4+5 hours on high works much better than 8 on low.
