A glass measuring jug that doesn’t lose its numbers: the holy grail

Does such a thing exist? I have a cupboard full of Pyrex jugs that are now naked after too many dishwasher trips. I would pay A LOT for just one decent one that lasts!

Mine is 10+ years old Oxo Good Grips glass with red lettering. Still has all its numbers. Goes in dishwasher at least once a week, maybe twice and no issues so far. Are you in a hard water area? Do you put the dishwasher on above 65 degrees?

I have had my Pyrex jugs for at least ten years for and seven for the other, which was a hand-me-down. What dishwasher tablets do you use? I switched dishwasher tablets for a bit and it seemed much more abrasive and started wearing away mug designs of mugs I'd had for years, which is why I ask.

Tryingatleast · 31/12/2025 00:48

Don’t hate me but our Pyrex one has- about twenty years old so it could be a modern thing

Goodwitch9 · 31/12/2025 17:56

I'm rubbish at links but google Anchor Hocking. I have one and it's still got all it's numbers. As used by the Barefoot Contessa!

Hand wash them!

this sort of thing?

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 31/12/2025 19:27

We all know the DW erases the letters/numbers on Pyrex
We do not want to hand wash.
We need to know of a measuring jug that can go in the DW.

That looks quite promising…

Absolutely. I was really hoping there would be an obvious alternative product that I just hadn’t heard of!

The plastic ones have outlasted the pyrex ones for years. Xx

I’m going to order one myself! 😅 I never weigh out ingredients, I always use the cup method, so this is really handy for that.

Almostwelsh · 31/12/2025 20:56

Remark them. Nail varnish is pretty good at withstanding the dishwasher.

RunSlowTalkFast · 31/12/2025 21:07

My pyrex jugs haven't lost their numbers at all and are in the dishwasher every day. They're not double figure years old either 🤷🏻‍♀️

Chickadee001 · 01/01/2026 06:53

Lakeland might have something on their website, they're usually genius at things like that!

TheClangyClunk · 01/01/2026 07:05

In our house the plastic jugs have lost their numbers but the glass one is going strong.

Bjorkdidit · 01/01/2026 07:48

We have 4 Pyrex jugs of varying sizes, estimated between 10 and 30 years old.

All have been in the dishwasher a few times a week forever. Three still have all their markings but one of the older ones is completely blank. Likely all came from supermarkets.

lilkitten · 02/01/2026 15:26

I was going to say Pyrex as I've had mine around 15 years or so and it still looks great, but I don't have a dishwasher

hottentot · 02/01/2026 15:31

I only hand wash mine and this seems to have stopped them losing their numbers.

Marmite27 · 02/01/2026 15:33

We moved into our house 15 years ago and I’m still using the same Pyrex jug, and all the measurements are still legible. It’s always gone though the dishwasher and is used multiple times a week, probably equivalent to once a day.

What are you doing to your jugs that they wear off?

PickleThePenguin · 02/01/2026 15:40

We have 2 modernish pyrex jugs (10ish years old) and their numbers are coming off. We also have an older one from DH's grandparents and that still has the pristine numbers! So I think it's a modern pyrex jug issue.
