Aldi Camembert

I bought two Camembert from Aldi being a big fan of Camembert in general and was very disappointed with both.

One was the specially selected thst i had on Xmas Eve, 30 mins on the oven, and it turned out to be over ripe if what i read on google was correct. It smelt and tasted like ammonia, was watery and was disgusting so I threw it away.

The second one was the Smoky Chilli and Honey which we had for Boxing Day tea. It was like the texture of water with clotted bits in it, totally tasteless and that also went in the bin. Both had been stored correctly and refrigerated within two hours of buying.

Did anyone else try the Aldi Camembert and did you have a similar experience to me I wonder?

My special one is fine, but I didn't cook it. Didn't try the other, I don't like additions in cheese.

Did you bake them both. Not all Camemberts bake well and the second one sounds like it wasn’t supposed to be baked

Generally a very under ripe Camembert will do this

I had exactly the same! I threw it away without baking it as the texture and smell were disgusting! The consensus here was like it looked like the skin on paint that is left out and smelt like paint too! I bought it at the weekend.

We had the smoky chilli and honey one and it was lush! I find very often supermarket "baking" camemberts don't bake very nicely at all but this one was perfect. We did buy it in the middle of December and eat it on winter solstice though so maybe it was from a different batch?

We had the Aldi Acacia Honey and Truffle one, it was ok until the added glaze made it go really watery. Wish we hadn’t bothered and had left it as a plain one, the taste was ok but the texture ruined it.

I suspect that was it. The OPs wasn't ripe enough to bake. Yours was older. Everyone know camembert is best when its very pungent and almost walking off the plate its so gooey.

Oh no we have on the fridge. I'll be very disappointed if it's rubbish!
