Easy Canapé Ideas Needed

Looking for some really easy canapé ideas for Christmas drinks party. I’m not a confident cook so as simple as possible. Also things that I can prep in advance, as don’t want to be nursing the oven all evening. Thanks very much, your tried and tested ideas appreciated !

Cocktail sausages, pickled onions half and cheddar cube on a stick.

Pastry case with smoked salmon, sour cream and dill.

Chicken goujons tossed in sticky, spicy sauce Korean style, or just arranged around a dipping pot of same.

Giant prawns with Marie rose sauce.

Cherry tomatoes with mozzarella and pesto.

Cut cherry tomatoes in half.
Cut mozzarella into cubes, then dip them in some green pesto.
Sandwich the mozzarella between two cherry tomato halves, and skewer them on a cocktail stick.

Pigs in blankets, classic and most people like them

Mini quiches (make them with just chives and cheddar or cheddar and roasted red pepper to be vegetarian)

Cheese and crackers, pre slice the cheese and put on crackers if you want more of a canapé that people can just scoop and eat with a drink in hand

If you want something posh looking, Waitrose do little jars of lumpfish caviar and blinis that are very inexpensive, maybe couple quid, bit of caviar on a blini with some creme fraiche is delicious and fancy

Mackerel pate on mini toasts - no cooking required!

you need a pack of mini bruschetta toasts eg the crostini ones (any brand but need to be the bite sized ones)
1-2 packs of smoked cooked mackerel, I like the sweetcure
1 packet dill
1 pack lemons
1 tub creme fraiche

flake and fish removing the skin (I eat the skin but any pets will also be your friend for life)
chop the dill
zest the lemon and chop
squeeze the lemon(s)
mix the fish with the creme fraiche, the dill, the lemon zest, salt and pepper, add the lemon juice. Put on the toasts close to serving, the fish mix can be made up the day before.

So easy, produces a lot of canapés, can be put onto gluten free crackers if required too

Peppadew peppers (from a jar) drained and filled with cream cheese. Yum.

I can tell the age of each poster here from the food they suggest!

I can tell the age of each poster here from the food they suggest!

How so? And how is that important?

BlackForestCake · 18/12/2025 21:29

Because party food goes in and out of fashion. And people tend to find things they like and then do the same things year after year.

It's not importantly, just sociologically interesting.

Smoked salmon and cream cheese on blinis or little slices of crostini.

Pate and/or goats cheese on little slices of bread, crackers or crostini.

Cocktail sausages or mini chorizo. Could coat in a sticky honey sauce and pop on skewers.

Prawns in wasabi mayo (mix wasabi paste into mayo to taste) in croustade cases.

Wrap cubes of canteloupe melon in Parma ham and skewer with a cocktail stick.

Nigella's cocktail sausages - very easy and lots of different things you can put with them. Maybe hot honey, so honey and chilli flakes?
