Fruit

Do you wash your fruit such as raspberries, strawberries, blueberries etc. before eating them? I don't bother as I assumed it was washed before packaging. Wrong! I've been eating berries with my porridge for years without washing, but my DP pointed out recently that it should be washed before consumption. I googled it and apparently he's right. It also says on the packaging, but I always studidly ignored that. 😲

I've never washed any food 👀

Only if my mother in law is watching…

Yes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I soak berries that I pick from outside, you'd be amazed how many bugs come out of them.

Store bought ones I do sometimes, if I can be bothered.

Not unless actually dirty. Immunity building 😁

musicalfrog · 18/11/2025 11:24

I run water over them.

There was a boil fruit warning on soft fruit for ages few years ago due to contamination and after watching a programme on tv on Greece I think where workers come in for the picking season and are housed in basically containers with very unsanitory conditions you can be sure I wash them!

That said I grow raspberries and strawberries, failed with the blueberries but raspberries crop really well and I use them the most anyway.

Yes, I wash all fruit unless it's going to be peeled before eating, e.g. bananas, oranges. I also wash all salad vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower etc. No idea how effective it is at getting rid of any pesticide residue, microbes from the hands of the pickers etc, but I'd rather not risk it, and I don't want to find any insects as I eat. I just put things in a colander and give them a good rinse under running cold water.

Of course I wash all fruit and veg, apart from bananas etc. absolutely grim not to.

somewhereintheworld · 18/11/2025 20:22

I'd better start doing it then 😂 Thanks for your responses.
