Lavazza Rosso ground coffee: what on earth has gone wrong?

Anyone else had a problem with the red Lavazza Rosso ground coffee? We've been drinking it with enjoyment for years but this morning it tasted horrible. New packet well within date, same cafetiere and water as usual. We sniffed the open packet and it smelt rather unpleasant - not like coffee at all, but musty. Opened a new packet with a later use by date in 2027, and it smelt less bad but similar. Interested if anyone else has noticed.

Oh no! That’s my favourite coffee. I opened a packet a few days ago and it had its usually lovely fruity coffee bean smell. I probably bought the packet a few weeks ago.

No still fine. But horribly expensive

Thanks for the replies. Opened yet another pack this morning and it was fine but not the sublime experience it used to be. Bought all the packs at the same time so maybe there was a storage problem at the shop.

Do you have COVID by any chance? Does it smell bad to everyone or just you? Problems with sense of smell can be caused by lots of things.

more and more coffee companies blend arabica and robusta beans now. arabica had a lot of issues due to adverse weather and has there for increased in price a lot.

Ha, that's a thought. DH and I both thought it smelt and tasted nasty, but we have both been ill recently with something that could have been COVID. Maybe it's that. Thanks.

I bought some of their nespresso capsules yesterday in Waitrose for the first time and they were disgusting!

No it’s my regular choice and seems fine still to me. But will echo about covid.. when I had it a few months ago the one thing that went truly weird was the smell of coffee, almost like a sort of nasty chemical type tinge to the smell/taste. Thankfully that went as soon as the covid shifted.
