Roast chicken serving ideas

I was going to do a roast and the whole family groaned they were bored of roasts (I could live on a roast so find the whole idea odd but there we go!). I do however have a whole chicken I’d like to roast so looking for some new ways to serve. We eat most things but not wanting a casserole or anything just serving suggestions.

Season it greek style (garlic, oregano, lemon) before roasting, then carve it off the bone and serve with wraps, yoghurt dressing, halved roasted new potatoes and salad

Spice it with smoked paprika and cumin before roasting, then serve it with cous cous and roast veg

Roast it plain and use it for various things in the week - sandwiches, soup, risotto

I like serving roast chicken alongside tabbouleh and other flavourful/herby salads. It’s a nice change from the heavy/stewy dishes we tend to eat at this time of year.

I like to do a roast chicken and serve it with a vegetarian risotto (if I can be bothered), or some sort of rice pilaf. It can also be made to look nice on a big serving platter done this way, with some nice fresh greens on the side. Extra points if you do some sort of interesting dressing for the veg.

I've also done the Jamie Oliver pot roast chicken with potatoes and a herby pesto which goes down quite well.

Thank you @SpiceGhoul I have saved that Nigella recipe, looks lovely

Dh quite often does a peri peri marinade and spatchcocks a chicken - we have it with flatbreads, salad, wedges etc.
Or joints it and does a tandoori chicken.
or Greek style served with a Greek salad, yoghurt dip, bread, chips.

you could spatchcock it, quicker to roast and more crispy bits and marinade in peri peri or tandoori style. serve with rice or chips or crispy new potatoes and coleslaw.

Some great ideas thank you - I’m going for the Nigella orzo one tonight and will definitely try some of the others. My roast dinner hating family will be delighted Grin

I quite like doing it in an Indian style, stuffing with lemon and garlic and using a tandoori masala rub on the outside. Get a roasting dish put the chicken on a base of sliced onions and four crushed garlic cloves. Make a gravy using chicken gravy granules, mixed with madras curry powder and pour around the chicken, then season with salt and pepper. Cover with tinfoil for all but the last twenty minutes, and make sure the gravy doesn't evaporate (add some boiling water if it is getting low. I did this yesterday and my wife loved it, served it with garam masala and black onion seed roast potatoes.

This is the best way I’ve ever had a whole chicken. Do not skip the step of making the coconut gravy at the end. I could drink it by the glass full.

Try Jamie’s Spicy Roast chicken. It’s amazing!!! Or if you want an easier version, you could buy a jar of curry sauce ( whatever your preference) smear over the bird, then roast. Tip a tin of coconut milk over the top of it about ten minutes before you are ready to take out of oven. Make a gravy with the juices and serve with rice

While all these sound delicious, I agree with you that nothing beats a traditional roast. Unfortunately my dc also disagree and aren’t fussed so will be reluctantly following this thread for ideas. Not very seasonal but a nice salad and crusty bread is always nice
