Anyone bought from there?
Are they really superior ?
There's one quite near my new home, I was thinking about getting something special for Xmas.

Also, can you just walk in & buy something, or must everything be pre-ordered?

Thanks.

it's fine, i do think it's overpriced though. I think waitrose ready meals are just as nice. You can just walk in and buy regular meals, but you might need to pre order for christmas.

cupfinalchaos · 06/11/2025 10:38

It’s just a convenience ready meal and tastes like a ready meal, so as long as you see it as that it’s fine I guess.

Talipesmum · 06/11/2025 10:41

They’re ready meals that often taste as nice as cooking it yourself. They’re not over salty or sloppy like most ready meals. Also portion size is decent.

You can just walk in and buy things, but it’s possible if you wanted something particular for Xmas it might be a good idea to order it or get in advance and just keep in the freezer. Suggest you go in and try one or two of their smaller meals (they do lots of same stuff in small portion sizes as well as large family sizes), to see how you like it before committing before Xmas.

WaffleParty · 06/11/2025 10:46

They are really good. Definitely more like homemade than ready meal. Treat yourself to a small one first to try it out. The beef and brandy one is delicious.

Nigellastwinklylights · 06/11/2025 10:56

Yes, they’re good. I can recommend the steak, mushroom and merlot pie. If you sign up to their mailing list, they send you discount codes fairly regularly.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/11/2025 10:57

They don’t use all the normal
preservatives and stuff.

Mikart · 06/11/2025 15:43

I'm taking some with us to a cottage at Xmas...certainly not cooking! I like the Moroccan lamb tagine and veg lasagne.

WaneyEdge · 06/11/2025 15:45

I miss their king prawns with rice and samphire and you could get banoffee pie by the slice. Sigh.

SydneyCarton · 06/11/2025 15:55

My local station has a Cook vending machine, it's very tempting

Pashazade · 06/11/2025 18:39

They are very good, cheaper than a takeaway. Excellent desserts. Haven’t had a bad meal from them and tried all sorts over the years. Go for it, certainly as good if not better than the supermarket stuff.

WideOpenBeaches · 08/11/2025 06:46

In the grand scheme of things, I think they’re better than most. They don’t seem to have the same kind of preservatives that some others have… probably due to it being frozen. I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad meal from them.

As an aside, I’m a massive fan of Cook as they donate a lot of food to the DA charity that I volunteer for. It makes such a difference to our clients lives.

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/11/2025 07:02

Yes they’re very good, I love their risotto.

MuffinCCHeeler · 08/11/2025 07:34

I know someone who’s ordered the whole Cook Christmas spread for the last few years. She loves that it’s hassle free and really recommends it. She doesn’t enjoy cooking and can afford it.

I do find it expensive but The Cook near me often has 20%off offer on certain products and they have things on reduced which might be a few weeks away from expiry. I purchased their roast vegetable lasagne on offer and was amazed my picky eater ate it all.
It feels healthier than a normal supermarket ready meal but you have to read the ingredients list to check how ultra processed it is.

Definitely go into the shop and have a look.

Defiantly41 · 08/11/2025 09:33

Better quality than most ready meals, a lot less unnecessary ingredients and most just use the things you would use if you made it home made. Also their range of GF and DF food is good, making use of naturally GF ingredients and not full of chemical nasties. And clearly labelled on the front of the pack, you don’t need to search the ingredients list.

portion size is decent and if you look at the percentages of say, chicken in a curry sauce compared to any other ready meals, the higher price is worth it. The beef bourguinon, chicken alexander and the Thai curries are great. The single-portion meals are great if you don’t want to cook or want a decent meal rather than a takeaway. Definitely worth signing up to their mailing list for offers too

in the summer they sell ice lollies with very few and all natural ingredients, delicious but pricey

their large desserts especially the chocolate and raspberry roulade are great

DeafLeppard · 08/11/2025 09:42

The vast majority of frozen food doesn’t have preservatives, that’s what freezing is for, so I don’t think they are particularly unique. I do find them eye-wateringly expensive but agree a bit nicer than usual ready meal fare. I’ve bought a vegetarian main course from there for Christmas this year as it did look nicer than the supermarket veggie offerings.

I really like their porchetta and usually do this on New Year’s Day.

Also like their haddock and prawn risotto (preferred it when it was leek and haddock), the low calorie Thai pots, chilli, spaghetti bolognaise and sampled the chicken rogan josh which was really nice too. They do my favourite lemon tarts - much nicer than the Waitrose ones. They’re about the same price as the finer ranges at Marks and Waitrose I’d say and about the same price as Charlie Bingham. Very convenient if you don’t have loads of time to cook or need something quickly.

ChatNoire · 08/11/2025 09:55

They are good. They have a 15% discount off all their food this weekend.

Advocodo · 12/11/2025 17:00

Their roast duck with pancakes is amazing. Would never get from a Chinese takeaway or order in s restaurant again! Family member buys all the time.

Ooh! Love a lemon tarts. R they better than Waitrose’s number 1 range or their standard range?

FcukBreastCancer · 12/11/2025 17:03

Curries good and things like that.
Did Christmas beef wellington one year and was disappointed

NewAsics · 15/11/2025 19:50

The things that we’ve had from Cook were not superior to run-of-the-mill ready meals (in our opinions).
