I’m going to bake myself a birthday cake because I like baking and I don’t need to think about what the rest of the house will enjoy as it’s MINE 😁

I’m not going to say the sort of cakes I like in case I miss out on an excellent idea.

I love a date and walnut cake, its a loaf cake but my favourite. I add cinnamon and ginger to it.

Chocolate fudge cake, chocolate buttercream filling layered with salted caramel sauce, topped and covered with cream-cheese icing.

Made the same last year for myself - was amazing.

@ohwhattodo1 mine’s in a few weeks too! I’ve had a crap day, so I’m cheering myself up by thinking about cake.

I had a slice of Bakewell Tart cake in a cafe once and still think about making one.

Victoria Sponge. I don't like chocolate cake or cakes made with oil.

It really is. Someone brought it into work and everyone loved it. It feels a bit special too, not a run of the mill cake.

This one is the best. I only make it for special occasions now because extended family were requesting it weekly at one point

I love baked cheesecake, I like to use ginger nuts as a base and make the filling very lemony 😋

For cakey cake, I like a good Blackforest with fresh cream, toasted nuts and soaked cherries.

Chocolate cake, with fork holes spiked all over the top and extra icing to run through. Not the most elegant but great cold or hot. Works well with chocolate and mint icing.

I love an orange cake. Just add zest and juice, then make a little syrup with some juice and pour over.

I used to bake a lot when DC were at home and never ate a bite. Now I make a lot of cake, just for me.
I vary it a bit but always add 25g of ground almond which makes a slightly sticky, heavy cake. I accidentally made some amazing muffins last week. I used a 3 egg mix and had some leftover cooked apple. Stirred a dollop into the mix before baking and it was amazing.

Carrot cake with thick cream cheese frosting. Dh makes one for my birthday every year (it's the only cake he can make!)

Very rich fruitcake, or a Dundee cake.

I make it all the time - it is the easiest cake to make. I use a National Trust recipe

Nigella’s clementine and almond cake, or Delia’s preserved ginger cake with lemon icing or a Bakewell slice or Delia’s lemon curd layer cake
