Beige. When my daughter cooks it in the air fryer. Stinks out the whole house.

GloriaMonday · 03/11/2025 19:20

Fried street food.

DiscoBob · 03/11/2025 19:24

Well yeah any meat based animal food would obviously be repulsive but no human likes the smell of pedigree chum surely?!

I hate the smell of plain lamb with too much fat on it cooking. Like it smells like old rancid dishcloths. Just a really dirty smell. I only like lamb when it's been cooked with lots of spices and flavourings.

I used to live near a biscuit factory and that was amazing.

Semolina and custard from school dinners was appalling smelling, and worse tasting. In fact all the smells of 80s school dinners!

Terrytheweasel · 03/11/2025 19:26

Egg

merryredtoad · 03/11/2025 19:33

Any "meaty" smells - but then I'm a veggie !

InveterateWineDrinker · 03/11/2025 20:40

Steak and kidney pudding. All I remember is this as a school lunch and the entire campus smelt like a public toilet.

AgentPidge · 03/11/2025 20:46

Lamb. Cheapo mince. (DH buys posh mince and it doesn't smell like that.)

Ihavepaidalotforthisstory · 03/11/2025 20:47

Roast lamb

FullOfMomsense · 03/11/2025 20:47

Curry, but only when it has cumin in. Cumin smells like BO to me unfortunately!
Fish generally, particularly kippers.
The smell of baked beans left in a pan turns my stomach.
The smell of a packet of ham... now I cook my own
Never smelt kidney or liver cooking and now I don't want to!

evtheria · 03/11/2025 20:50

Mushrooms (also hate eating them)
Raw chicken (but raw beef smells so good?!!), absolutely awful

But I have no issue with durian, raw fishy smells, cabbagey things, fermentations etc.

CrushingOnRubies · 03/11/2025 21:34

Fried donuts from a food truck. See also churros

Those bushes that smell of sperm!

I don't know of a bush that smells like sperm, but lamb's lettuce does.

And boxwood smells like cat pee.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 04/11/2025 08:57

Egg, but only when the yolk and white aren't mixed together. Scrambled egg and omelette is fine. But boiled, fried, poached - so unpleasant.

The worst food smell I've ever encountered was tripe. It smelled like simmering shit, that's the only way I can describe it.

Words · 04/11/2025 12:01

Curry. Especially stale curry smell.

Sgtmajormummy · 04/11/2025 12:15

Stock fish.
It smells like I imagine an Egyptian mummy would. Sulfur and rotting ammonia.
Then they boil/poach/stew it and it stinks the place out.
DH thinks it’s a delicacy…

fiorentina · 04/11/2025 12:18

Lamb or meat fat in general. Deep fat fried anything, hate the way oil makes the house smell and sticks around, whether it’s clean or not.

Screwyoucolin · 04/11/2025 12:42

some bloke at work brings fish for his lunch everyday. Absolutely stinks the entire staff room and seeps into the office. A colleague was retching at it the other day!

PracticalPixie · 04/11/2025 12:43

Haggis or just offal in general
Eels

starofthecountydown · 04/11/2025 12:46

Prawns. DP eats them a lot as he is pescatarian and frozen prawns are easy to add. There are loads of food smells I don’t like, but the stench of prawns is far and away the worst.

I was cooking bacon for DS1, and DS2 commented that the house smelled of mens toilets. And suddenly I could smell what he was smelling and couldn’t unsmell it🤣

MrsMitford3 · 04/11/2025 12:47

Truffle Oil.

I have an incredibly strong visceral response to it-
I can not bear to have anyone sitting near me eating it. I hope it goes out of fashion the way of the sun dried tomato.

Nowheretobeseen · 04/11/2025 13:01

Cinnamon
spiced apple
pumpkin

GloriaMonday · 04/11/2025 13:14

I don't like truffle oil either. Roast lamb smells like sheep but cooked.

mindutopia · 04/11/2025 13:16

Raw onion.

Dh insists on eating it with what seems like absolutely fucking everything. Except he’s the only one who eats it, so he’ll chop a whole onion just to have a small piece. And then just leave it there on the side all day or put it on a plate in the fridge because he’s sure one of us will suddenly need to eat some later in the day.

It seeps into everything, the butter, a cake in the fridge, my leftovers for lunch, so everything smells and tastes of onion.

Wiglio · 04/11/2025 13:25

@Carandache18 I’im with you on the tripe and onions
when I was young my DM used to blanch the tripe, it was revolting I would go out but DDad loved it🤮

Fizbosshoes · 04/11/2025 13:38

Someone gave me a durian sweet a few months ago, it tasted of (how I imagine) sweaty armpits, it was the most repulsive thing ever
