Vegetarian main to go with roast

Want to cook something really nice for a guest, if you’re veggie what is the nicest thing you’ve had a part of your roast? I’m doing all the usual sides

You could do a mushroom wellington.
Roast vegetable filo parcel.
Nut roast.

I’m always perfectly happy with the roasties and veg, as long as there’s cauliflower cheese, so a bit of sauce on the meal in the absence of gravy.
Asda and Tesco do have nice free from (vegan and gluten free) instant gravy granules though.

Just a tip - most instant gravy is vegetarian!

Any kind of vegetable and cheese filo or puff pastry parcel. Garlic mushroom would be a hit with me!

I love big mushrooms stuffed with puy lentils, herbs and feta or goats cheese. It has a steak feel to it so compliments the rest of the roast sides. Though if there were plenty of sides, including cauliflower cheese, I’d be very happy with that. I do eat meat now, but sometimes still opt for the sides only with a roast because they are the nicest bit.

So that’s what she says my potatoes are very very good thanks to my nan teaching me as a kid!

I'm planning cauliflower and broccoli cheese
Peas
honey roasted carrots
green beans
Could do with one more for variety

but just didn’t want to give only vegetables - even if they are a good selection.

Never heard of puy lentils but know that she eats a lot of lentils so this would be good. Do you stuff the mushroom then bake?

This is great actually. I never make my own gravy from meat juices etc as find a bit gross so if I make normal gravy granules then we can all eat the same thing so thank you, I wouldn’t have thought of gravy granules as being something vegetarian.

I'm vegetarian, and my favourite 'main' for a roast is nut roast, but a mushroom wellington usually goes down quite well! I don't like a Quorn joint, as even though I don't mind fake meats, I don't think it complements a roast.

Lentil loaf is my favourite and it can be customised to suit loads of different tastes by switching out the herbs and spices for whatever you fancy.

I love vegetarian haggis and often have that with a roast.
