Bacon and rice with a custard cream as a dessert

Blimey. Whatever it is it's fairly unrecognisable. Wet lettuce and collapsed courgette possibly.

Back of cupboard, I'm pretty sure there will be some out of date cranberry sauce

Sausage Ragu recipe on BBC Good Food. Easy, only a few ingredients and a winner with the family.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 10/09/2025 16:30

Fava beans with slightly off Greek yoghurt

Imperfectpolly · 10/09/2025 16:32

I'm lucky I emptied out the drawer with out of date sauces etc a few weeks ago!
I'll be having steak, potatoes that are sprouting and a brioche for dessert.

Some pasta bake with chorizo/tinned toms/cheddar. I could even be healthy and add some frozen peas. And ambrosia tinned rice pudding with tinned pears.

i'll soon be moving (fingers crossed), so I'm running down the fridge & freezers as far as possible.

Tonight, it's "here's-one-I-prepared-earlier" that is missing a label.
Tiny brown lumps, surrounded by liquid.

It'll need to defrost before I decide whether 📧

to throw it over some pasta + parmesan,
boil some rice + use up some mango chutney,
or cover it in mashed spuds & cheese.

martinisforeveryone · 10/09/2025 18:49

I'd be having a risotto with left over chicken that's still on the frame, chopped shallot, lemon zest - quite fresh and chopped, dregs of some white wine and green beans. I could add frozen peas too if that's allowed, could also be either/or with the beans. The only footnote is that I won't be acknowledging the BB date on the rice.

I‘d use my your wildly over its sell-by date slightly off yoghurt to make soda bread or flatbreads, and team it with some dal makhani of unspecified date that I found while I was defrosting the freezer. A slightly soft beetroot will be grated, cooked up with garlic, ginger, peanut butter, bit of crispy chili oil, lime juice and a splash of water and served alongside.

I read somewhere about a teenager looking mournfully into a fridge and complaining, “This is full of ingredients, but there’s no food.” That’s my fridge, that is.

Xatz63 · 11/09/2025 15:16

I've got pickled onions and a jar of ted cabbage and mint sauce which I'm not sure how long been there possibly since xmas!
.

Westfacing · 13/09/2025 13:41

A bag of chantenay carrots - I had plans for them but they're somehow still lurking there every time I open the fridge!

There's also a bunch of spring onions that will go limp any minute now and 100g of halloumi.

I'm having a think.

MummySleepDeprived · 13/09/2025 15:21

Cauliflower, paneer and peas with a jar of curry sauce. Paneer was a great honking beast from Costco and thus was languishing in the fridge.

Numbersarefun · 13/09/2025 15:23

Oh no, in the process of moving - new fridge and cupboards are currently empty - I’m going without!!

blimeydarling · 13/09/2025 15:23

A lot of cheese and some lemons 😀

Magenta82 · 13/09/2025 16:07

I just did this and made a beef curry out of a Xmas Tesco half price top rump that had been in the freezer too long plus blended onion, squash, carrot and cabbage, flavoured with fresh ginger with the mouldy parts cut off, coconut milk, peanut butter, curry powder and garam masala.

If i was really being strict I would add the 2! Bags of unopened radishes.

This thread has inspired me and I might add some new potatoes from the veg draw for the last 30 mins.

I spent £200 on groceries last week and can't understand how I am scraping together dinner for tonight.

At least the home delivery will come tomorrow morning!

CelestialFilly · 14/09/2025 15:19

Oooh I have some microwave white short grain rice (sushi), a bottle of mirin, soya sauce, some tinned sardines/mackerel and frozen petit pois.

Some mixed nuts, dried figs, apricots. Could mix with seeded crackers and cheese.

Tomato soup, plop some mixed lentils from a micro pack (Merchant) in for fiber.

DulciUke · 14/09/2025 15:36

My fridge? Food poisoning.

stayathomer · 14/09/2025 15:37

Jesus why do I have so many sachets of white sauce here?!??

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/09/2025 15:47

I've just made a soup out of all the old vege at the bottom of the fridge.

We're getting a delivery tomorrow, so all there now is at the back of the fridge is half a custard tart, an old red chilli. some garlic and a piece of Red Leicester.
