Still in the sea evidently!!!

I can’t get any in Sainsbury’s or M&S and I love tinned sardines, I would normally eat once a week

have I missed something???

I bought some in Waitrose last week and they seemed to have their usual selection. I haven't heard of a shortage. I like sardines too, especially on toast.

I had this problem a couple of months back, the section at Morrisons was completely empty. No sardines or pilchards at all!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 10/09/2025 15:39

No sardines or pilchards in Tesco for months until a couple of weeks ago, when they started restocking sardines. All very odd.

There’s been a definite shortage. If you look online at any of the supermarkets they’re in very short variety. Of the 10 types that Tesco sell, 7 are out of stock.

I like the Parmentier ones that Waitrose sell, and they’ve been in and out of stock for months.

Yes. None in Tesco for months. They've just reappeared last week. Been buying mackerel instead.

applegingermint · 10/09/2025 15:44

Apparently the catch in Morocco has been very poor this year which has led to the shortage.

ConBatulations · 10/09/2025 15:45

I can get them in our local Sainsbury's if I shop in person but not from the larger Sainsbury's if I shop online.

So no one’s looked at the link I’ve added - where you’ll find an inordinate amount of fabulous quality tinned fish?

(No connection - just one of my favourite food places. Pescatarian, so …)

SpinelessBastardsAll · 10/09/2025 16:02

In the sea hopefully, where they belong.

The existence of an online artisan retailer selling sardines at £5+ a tin plus postage doesn’t negate the well publicised shortages, does it?

Tinned sardines shortages loom as Morocco supply ‘non-existent’

The majority of the UK's tinned sardines come from Moroccan waters

Very few in Aldi - they got a stock in a couple of weeks ago at our local store and were sold out by the next week. DDog is most put out, he loves a sardine.
